teabags in the compost ?

I read in an old answer someone saying that teabags can go into the compost.I always assumed they may make the compost a little too acidic.?

My question is can the bags go in as well ?, there is nothing on the box to indicate one way or the other and i can not find what they are made from.

Also

Will the tea leaves generally break down as quickly as the mixture of grass clippings and vegetable remains or does it take a season or two longer for the compost to be at a stage to be used ??

Thank you very much in advance

Yes teabags and coffee ground can be used in compost. Yes if you don't mix it with other compost it can be more acidic than store bought compost. There are plants that do like a bit more acid in their soil. If you have those type of plants then what I would do is cut off the strings and put the teabags into a food processor and with some water chop them up and pour this "tea" around the plants that like acidic soil and be happy with your efforts. Or I would just toss the teabags into the compost pile and let them rot with the rest of the vegetable matter. Teabags are made out of paper.

I have done that with coffee grounds too and the breakdown is pretty much instant, I don't overkill it mind you and yes it does put acidity into your compost bend. Plants like azelas, Rhododendrens, Hydrengias like the acidity but the key is moderation. You know how peat moss can be over used? Don't get to THAT extreme. Teabags will breakdown, the paper is so lightweight. Just remove the paper tag. That breaksdown a little slower. Check out the website posted, they have such good information about any gardening need. Good luck!

Absolutely. In spite of popular lore, used tea and coffee grounds are not that acidic. Fresh grounds contain high acid levels, but the brewing process removes most of the acid. Used coffee grounds have a pH level of 6.5 to 6.9 and tea grounds are even more neutral. The only thing that won't compost is the little staple that holds the tag to the string.

yes you may. teabags are kitchen waste like coffee grinds and orange peels.. all the compost breaks down to make good organic soil for plants.

& to add to Hondu's answer... you can get teabags without staples, like the pyramid bags of PG Tips. Of course, loose leaf tea's the best!
