  • From the current movie RIPD. math check on a statement made please?

    In the movie RIPD

Mary louise Parker (mmm) playing proctor says to ryan reynolds

"there are over 150000 people dying a day, the system was just not meant to cope with that volume"

    math time now

i calculate that with 8 000 000 000 (8billion people in the world) and assuming a constant population ( ie deaths equal births) that with an average life expectancy of 65 that

    it should be 337 197 people a day .

or if it is indeed 150 000 people then the average life expectancy is 146 years?

My question is to those that like some applied math are my calcs right? did the movie under estimate the number of arrivals?

ps ive used 365 days a year and ignored leap days

  • microsoft word -- custom dictionary?

been writing a few chemistry reports and i have had to add a few new words to its dictionary. I have done this via the " add to dictionary " on the drop down box during an edit.

Along the way i have added a mis spelt word and it no longer highlights it for me .

    My question.

Is there a way to remove words from the dictionary after they have been added.??

  • Entropy and black holes - are they a 2nd law violation?

Black holes would seem to be a spontaneous process ( once initiated) that reduce the entropy both of itself (the system) and of it's surroundings.

This to my thinking would make them violate the 2nd law of thermodynamics in which in any spontaneous process the overall entropy is meant to increase.

The black hole is more ordered as it becomes a denser solid and the surroundings are more ordered as the gases are converted to the solid in a black hole.

Is there a flaw with my logic?

    Thank you in advance

  • Calculus the book why is Hostetler not a co-author of the ninth edition?

The authors of previous eight editions of "CALCULUS" seem to have been Larson Hostetler Edwards. Just wondering why Hostetler is not listed as co-author of ninth edition ? Even if he didn't have much to do with any additions (no pun intended:) , i would have thought that since alot of the content is the same that he would still be listed as a co author?

  • leagacy 7.0 question?

    i have legacy 7.0 .

I was told by a friend it was deluxe version by friend who gave disk after never using it but it is standard version.

I have alot of information on paper collected by aunt and sister and i want to delve further with new stuff that was not available to them.

    My question is

If i start using standard 7.0 when i purchase 7.4 deluxe will i essentially have to start over again or will most data be easily transferred (everything in correct field etc )

    and

Should i buy 7.4 deluxe i notice on legacy web site a 7.5? version is due out in near future. i.e if i buy 7.4 will i have to pay again for the upgrade to 7.5 when it arrives or is it simply an update? .

    Thankyou in advance

  • After answering a question i now get this message. why?

    Updates

Your answer has been posted to Yahoo!7 Answers

You can now share your activity on Answers via Yahoo!7 Updates

    Manage who sees your updates

Don't show this message again on Yahoo!7 Answers

I never used to get that message. I have many friends from different places in groups on my messenger and i don't particularly want all of them to receive updates about my answers activity.

    MY question is:

Why has it only just started to appear

  • Industrial chemist or material scientist?

i want to do further study and my employer is keen for me to do so also

However their strongly suggesting a chemistry degree ( i already have engineering not pertinent to field i currently find myself enjoying being in)

My argument to them was that our business does not involve the production of chemicals per say(and never will) but does use them at 1 or 2 stages later to develop and manufacture and market products.

I suggested a material scientist would be more pertinent plus i think i would enjoy that.

Many of the people i have spoken to from both industrial chemistry and material scientist degree backgrounds seem to be doing similar work.

    My question is:

What is the difference between the two in industry?.

Is there more of a demand for one or the other?

i'm presuming pay rates are compatible is this a correct assumption?

  • To all those that participate regularly in the category Travel?

There is a group of yahoo users called tiebusters that aim to clear the backlog of unresolved or old questions that have been in tiebreaker status for a long time . We do this by focusing/targeting our efforts on a particular category.

    http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Yah00AnswersTie...

The group has just moved into travel and hope to clear some of the nearly 25 000 questions (some 2 yrs old) that this category currently has.

    MY question is

Even if you don't join the free group from the link above would you as a regular participant be prepared to sort the "in voting" from oldest to newest and place 5 , 10 or 20 of your votes in travel each time your able to help clear the backlog and in the process help yourself and others like yourself in this category get due recognition for your efforts and time in answering questions, by voting for best answers

  • teabags in the compost ?

I read in an old answer someone saying that teabags can go into the compost.I always assumed they may make the compost a little too acidic.?

My question is can the bags go in as well ?, there is nothing on the box to indicate one way or the other and i can not find what they are made from.

    Also

Will the tea leaves generally break down as quickly as the mixture of grass clippings and vegetable remains or does it take a season or two longer for the compost to be at a stage to be used ??

Thank you very much in advance

  • how long are unresolved questions kept on the system?

Questions still up for voting after 3 years on video and online games 377000 + questions to be voted on to send them to resolved.

If they are still in voting after a year , then i think a purge should be mandatory . at 377000 votes undecided it would take 1 person 3770 days to vote for them all (ten years) it would take 10 people 1 year . Obviously votes aren't happening in that category (perhaps others as well).

Does anyone else agree a purge after 1 year for unresolved questions would be acceptable

  • Changing folder default location for My documents, my pictures etc?

I've recently added a second hard drive and hopefully soon will have it partitioned the way i desire.Once this is complete i would like to change the default location of my computer folder , my pictures folder etc to this second drive so that it is where all data is stored.

I could do this by shortcuts but i have my kids using computer regularly and well getting them to do dishes is hard enough without the headache of teaching them to remember how i've organised the computer.

Question is How do i achieve this?

  • 2nd hard drive removing partitions?

I have recently installed a 2nd (slave) hard drive . Originally it was the primary drive on a computer i am now using for parts.

All the data is still there and i have it all backed up.

MY question is . This 2nd drive i originally set 4 partitions and now i would like to remove them and set it as 1 partition . Could someone provide hints or tell me of a good site to get a step by step from please.

I have used Fdisk before but never on a 2nd drive and never when i had data that i didn't want to lose i.e it would be a real pain re installing my programmes again on the main drive if i got some setting wrong which is what i'm trying to avoid during the re partition.

    Thank you in advance
