Laptop battery charge drops instantly?

I have had my laptop for a few months now. I have it plugged in most of the time but generally let it completely cycle at least twice a week.

Now when I charge it to 100%, I unplug it and it instantly drops to around 70%. Does this mean that the battery is going bad?

Sounds like the battery needs replacement. If you bought your laptop new, and it's only a "FEW" months old...that's way to early for the battery to be going bad. I'd try going to your laptop manufacturer's website and see if there's a recall on your specific battery. You'll need to take note of the battery's serial number so you can compare yours with any recall orders. Just to let you know, batteries aren't generally covered by the warranty unless it's deemed defective.

I have the same problem with my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. The battery will charge to 100% but as soon as I disconnect it from AC power, it quickly depletes within 5 minutes. Only difference between my case and yours is that my laptop is almost 4 yrs old with the original battery.
