A good blueprinted Rem 700 is a good 308 rifle. The heavier barrels on the 700s will stiffen it up for longer shots.
The other brand you could look at is Savage. They make an excellent rifle and is often seen right along side of the factory benchrest competitions. The Target series Model 12s are tack drivers but are single shots. The Model 12 VLP DBM is also a very good long distance 308. The Model 10 FLCP-K with muzzle break Law Enforcement series appeals to the tactical guy.

You have forgoten the barrel lenghts and the internal barrel rifling should also be the same the trigger pul in lbs must be the same and also the rifles wieght If all the above conditions were appliedthen there would only be one rifle to choose from and the only other thing left to affect accuracy would be the shooter.Different shooters need different rifles because they are all different. good luck choose a rifle that suits you not that fits what the sales pitch says.

I have personally never shot the .308 but I've heard really good things about it. for what you want to do its probably your best option, there is also the .243, .223 those two are normally for small game hunting maybe no bigger than a deer. And the .270. is my favorite cause of its speed and stability. you might also want to look into a rifle that has a muzzle brake and other products to stabilize your groups when shooting targets
