Do you get SAD - the winter blues syndrome?

and has anyone tried the new SAD bulbs designed to help? At a cost of £20 plus I am loathe to buy them without knowing they work.

They work for some people - like my wife who uses a light box.

The bulbs give out more of the blue part of the spectrum which is supposed to help reorientate the internal body clock. Alternatively spend more time outside - walking the dog for instance.

I get SAD but dont use the bulb.

I find I just have to work through everything. Question myself as to why I am down and what I can do to resolve the feelings/situations.

I have heard however that the bulbs are good as they replicate the natural light.

I get the Winter blues, I would not pay anything for some hokus pokus. If I could afford it, I'd go to a sunny place for the darker part of the Irish/ English year. Otherwise a bright and cheery light and paint effect help somewhat.

  • I live in Australia so i'm exposed to natural sunlight most of the year.I've had SAD and a depressive illness.Medication helped me manage it.

It sounds like a lot to pay for 1 bulb ,perhaps the Government can subsidize some of the expense.
