If your dog was to get loose , what would HAPPEN ?

I ask this because I just moved into a new home - and the amount of STRAY dogs are ridiculous . Out of a few pits , several small hairy dogs and a few shepard type dogs the pits have been the nicest . Walk up to me tails wagging and rolling on their backs . While all the small dogs attack and run after me nipping and biting .

While the percentage of the Large dogs escaped the yard the Small dogs were let out by their owner.

Which brings me to Q2 : How should I approach these owners ???

To me it is common sense to Leash your dog but these people think just because their dog is small they can't harm anyone ?

Ex. I was walking my Lily and 1 of the small dogs ran up to Lily and start barking( on my property ) - Lily is just a puppy and I was not worried about her but that dog almost bit my dog . So I started " Shoeing " is away - the whole time this is happening the owners are standing in their yard just watching - not trying to get their dog or stop it . I was soo pist I wanted to walk over there and cuss them out - but I know it wouldn't solve anything ?? What should I do ??

I am really considering just calling the Human and let them deal w/ it .

Update:

Edit: there are leash laws here as well .

After getting sick & tired of poorly behaved dog nipping at my dogs hocks & jumping up at them, then listening to an endless procession of excuses "he means nothing by it", "just being playful" or "he never bites" & my personal favorite, the feigned surprise " he NEVER did that before, BAD dog".

I know carry a sturdy walking stick, which I initially way to drive away dogs, but if that did not discourage the behavior, I would NOT hesitate to use it on a dog in defence of mine.

If my dogs were loose outside, you would hear the pounding of paws on the front door & strident barking, demanding to be let back IN!!.

My advice is to carry a sturdy stick so you are in a better position to protect yourself & report the offending owners. If a dog owner chooses to abdicate responsibility for their dog’s behavior & allow it to be a nuisance to people, need to be pulled up short, by someone holding them accountable for their actions.

If my dog got loose (and he managed to escape being run over or grabbed by one of the dog-snatchers that operate in my area) he'd probably get picked up by the dog warden and taken to the RSPCA where I'd be given a week to come and buy him back. I'd get charged £60. If I didn't, he'd either be put up for adoption or euthanized. Probably the latter - he has too many issues for most people to handle. If it's between him and an easier dog e.g. a cute labrador puppy with no problems, he wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

id call police or animal control because one of these strays could end up attacking your dog, although seems that police dont control dogs off leash until after theres a problem. my dogs been attacked a few times. i just call police each time so if something happens theres a record of a problem prior with that dog. i also keep golf club by front door and pepper spray. it was suggested to me from ask to used fog horn that might work and just give your dog a treat afterwards.iam now keeping knife by front door new pitbull in neighborhood and two blocks away a cat killed theyre saying it was a pit so keeping an eye out.

Haha yeah Im really sick of it too.

Almost the same thing happened to me when I was walking my bull terrier and APBT. These little dog came running up to us only it was in attack mode. If a dog comes up to us in attack mode my dogs wont hesitate to attack back. I was worried because one crunch and that little dog would be done. The owners just sat there calling it and didn't even get there lazy asses up! Finally the dog came back and then there other dog a lab came running out and full on attacked my dogs. No damage done we got him away pretty quick, but it just goes to show you how stupid people are. I hate walking my dogs I never feel safe and people just let there dogs run wild around here as well. Guh!

Good gosh. I would not be nice In fact, the neighbors would probably call the police on ME for threatening to kill them.

Get on the phone to animal control immediately. This is a serious problem. This is not healthy for the animals, it is dangerous for ALL dogs in the neighborhood.

While animal control is getting their butts out there don't take any more crap. Grab yourself a big stick and scare the little buggers. Their owners start getting mad? Scare them, too.

Not sure if I'm a good example but I've been known to yell at irresponsible pet owners to remove their damn dog. We have strict leash laws in NC and therefore I rarely see stray dogs however I will yell at people at the dog park when their dog causes problems and they stand there looking like a bump on a log. Personally I would have asked them to control their dog, if they failed I might have been inclined to kick the dog, well not really, but I would threaten the owners that if they didn't contain their dog I would take care of it for them and they won't like how I do it.

If you don't care for confontation then have animal control handle it, report that the dog appeared threatening and you were worried as it appeared aggressive and off leash.

I would spray the dog with Direct Stop citronella spray, owners might take a hint after the first spray.

Next time the dog comes up to you and starts barking and being pissy at your dog... kick it as soon as it gets close enough. Take it as a threat, you can bet the owners will take notice then...

Do not cuss them out then they will know it's you for sure when the humane society shows up to fine them

Sometimes they swallow them, sometimes they fall out of there mouth. I remember finding baby teeth on the floor when my dog was a puppy.
