Is government entitled to your money?

How does one figure a Tax Cut is a cost? These people who say the Bush tax cuts cost America 2.8 trillion are lying by changing the nature of taxes. They think the government is entitled to this money like it's theirs.

Update:

The liberals bring up a good point, all these programs need to be paid for.

Answr: The federal Government does not have the power to implement these programs. ou want to use the constitution to justify taxes? Then you're gonna have to use the constitution to justify the programs.

I say get rid of the programs which are not enumerated in the constitution and we will save a ton of money.

The police, fire, roads are state issues. National defense and interstate commerce is Federal issues.

I say give the power back to the states.

    let's look at this logically.

who does the country belong to? the people..right?

who gives the govt power over the people ? the people right?

who is the govt supposed to be serving? the people right? because we have elections and elect them ..right?

ok...assuming all this is true, then the govt serves the people and represents the people and the people can replace the govt by electing new people when they dont like the laws and policies.

So far, I hope we agree.

    Here is the conclusion..

since govt serves the people and works for the people and since the people own the country, then the people do have a right to impose taxes on themselves to run the kind of society that they wish to have. for example, have armies to defend the people, police and fire departments to serve them, public schools to educate their children, to build roads, bridges, dams, ...to protect against tainted food, to protect against the Bernie Maddoffs of the world...well you get the idea.

all this takes money...obviously and hence taxes.

Since it takes money to run a civilized society that has all the nice things that civilized societies have, this implies that taxes must be collected. The reverse would be if you did not want a nice society with all the nice civilized things and preferred a society that resembled somalia or haiti, then you would go for the much lower tax route and simply have everyone fend for himself with local warlords staking out territories and charging people just to let them pass through their sections.

So..to answer your question is govt (we the people) entitled to your money?

YES IT IS...IF WE THE PEOPLE HAVE VOTED REPRESENTATIVES IN PLACE WHO PASS SUCH LAWS...AND IF WE DONT LIKE IT, WE CAN ALWAYS ELECT NEW ONES TO CHANGE THE LAWS.

Okay you know what I am just sick and tired of the this idea of lets have no one pay taxes, sounds great in theory and all but how to we fix the roads, pay for public schools, pay government workers, the military, national security, the list is freaking endless. Now you tell me who and how to pay for these programs, entities, employees what have you and yeah sure at that point I could feel relatively okay not paying my taxes but you know what I like having police officers and the fire department. I think that they do a lot of good and I really enjoy having them around. So yes the government is entitled to your money and my money and quite frankly the richer you are the more you can afford to pay end of story stop complaining about paying taxes or go live somewhere where you don't have to because in America we pay our taxes and we get a lot out of it.

Almost all governments think that their citizens are a bottomless source of wealth for them to plunder, loot and to give away to their cronies.

That's why so many governments are in trouble financially, as they overspend, and run up debts, like Greece, the USA, etc.

Tax cuts are usually done around the time of elections, to fool the people into thinking that the government is actually doing something to reduce the tax burden. When the elections are over, it's business as usual, and taxes will be raised more than ever to keep the loot flowing to the politicians' cronies.

    Yes. It's in the Constitution:

Article 1 Section 8. "The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States;"

Also see the Sixteenth Amendment: "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

Those teabaggers are always forgetting -- Freedom Ain't Free.

The Framers of the Constitution didn't forget and that's why they gave the government means to raise revenue.

If you are a conservative, then no, the gov't is not entitled to your hard-earned money.

If you are a liberal, then yes, the GOVERNMENT is entitled to the conservative capitalist pig's money.
