Awww that's really sweet that you came up with that all on your own! She should love it and always remember it. In my opinion, the only really "cheesy" way to propose is in some over the top public ordeal (you know proposal on the sign at the game or in a crowded popular restaurant type thing), that sort of thing might be embarrassing for her. But a nice romantic private thing should be really memorable and special.
Just one thing you might want to keep in mind, be SUPER careful with that ring, if you drop it in the dirt by the lake in the dark, good luck finding it. Perhaps pack a bright lantern or flashlight "just in case" and keep that ring IN the box from the jewelry store until you propose (not floating loose in your pocket where it could get damaged, or worse, lost). You could also tell her you have something to "show her" in the car, that way if it fell, well it's somewhere in the car and not lost forever (up to you, depending on how clumsy you are :-). And one more thing you might think to pack (that she really may appreciate) is some white medical tape. If the ring is too big, she can temporarily wrap it up in the tape and wear it right away without fear of it slipping off. Best of luck, and that really does sound like a sweet romantic way to propose, that she will KNOW you came up with all on your own (come on, only a guy would come up with that, and that makes it all the more special that it comes from your heart)

no, but i would make it more picnic-y instead of having the folding table and chairs that you have to set up, get a nice picnic blanket and a picnic basket with the strawberries, cream, a bottle of wine or champagne and 2 flutes. keep the champagne until afterward maybe? act real nonchalant like you just missed her and wanted some quiet time to stargaze or whatever. then when she isn't looking pull out the ring and say something along the lines of"I love you more than the sun, the moon, and all the stars. You are my world, and I'd be lost without you. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" not word for word just make it from the heart and make it you. oh and BTW girls love cheesy! good luck!

This isn't cheesy, it's actually a really nice way to propose. The only things I would suggest is to have more than one candle if it is going to be dark (not very romantic if you're peering at each other in virtual darkness) and if you can afford it splash out on a bunch of red roses rather than just one and pouring cream is always nicer than whipped cream for strawberries (unless your girlfriend prefers whipped - definitely get it then!) I hope you have picked a lovely ring?!! Good luck - please let us all know how it goes!!!

Hey, ahhh it's so sweet that you are thinking of proposal even if you are 13! I'm a 13 year old girl and I think about marriage sometimes (is that normal?). ANYWAYS! From my point of view I think Valentines Day would be sweet but really even if it's a random date I think that'd be sweet because it's so out of the blue! :-) Hope I helped, becky

Well, its a great idea but I think you should set it all up prior to picking her up... she'll DEFINITELY suspect something if you go through all that set up in front of her (esp if you're not usually romantic)!!! The whole time you're setting up she'll be anticipating the proposal, but if you just casually drive her over to a secluded spot nearby and have the scene set, you'll get the full-on surprised reaction :)

It's not cheesy... but a little cliched... it's been done before... try and make it more original:
Why not have a few flowers each with a little paper tied on each one with a count down list of why you love her. ("I love you because...") Then the very last one can say "Will you marry me?"
Good luck and congratulations!

You sound very romantic to me, go for it. She will love the fact that you made such an effort to make this such a special time. Girls love this type of stuff.

It's not cheesy at all... actually its really cute. if i was your gf, I'd love it. However, lose the rose. You want to suprise her when you propose. the rose would be leading her on. She'll know whats coming next... good luck hope it goes well!!!!!

It's not cheesy at all! It's really sweet. Its going to mean the world to her, because you're putting thought into it..It's the fact that you're making it all it can be! and the fact that you love her so much, you're asking her to be your wife! Just in that, she's going to feel so loved!

It's ok except for the folding table and chairs, set it all up before you go there and maybe hire a violinist if you have the money, show some class.
