Is it wrong to keep your child away from others when he is sick?

My family wont stop giving me a hard time, he is 8 months old and woke up with a 103 degree fever and his eyes were sealed shut from conjunctivitis. I told them there is no way i'm coming over for easter, he is super fussy and sick.

They just think I am too overprotective, but I dont want him picking up another virus while he is dealing with this, I cant miss alot of work or we will be homeless.

It doesn't sound legal to me, but just in case, see if there is a hot line you can call specific to your area to find out what to do about a situation like that. It depends on the state you're in probably. Usually if you call a hotline, you don't have to give them any information you don't want to except the situation you want to know about. That might be easier than going through CPS or the school board. I quite a few days when I was in school due to a medical issue and heard every threat you could imagine. The "records" never matched mine either. According to the principal I had, they get paid for a certain amount of "excused missed days" and after that, they start to lose money on your child. That's when they started to get an attitude with me.

You are doing the right thing -absolutely! Don't let disspointed family members comments cause you further concern when you are already dealing with your childs sickness - they were bring rude, insensitive an jelous! Stick to your guns an don't think about them at all! Hope all day cuddles with your sick baby will help bring him back to his happy healthy self very soon!

Source(s): A mom who keeps her sick kids home and away from family an friends - likewise if family or friends are sick (anything major or minor) I will stay away and keep my kids from them too - yes I've cancelled family gatherings because of minor illness too! My kids health is important to me.

No. A sick child needs mom's attention, lots of cuddling, tons of rest, and to be as comfortable as possible. Dragging your child out when they feel terrible is cruel. If you were that sick, you wouldn't go anywhere. It's what is best for your child to stay home. I don't give a d--- what people think of me when it comes to my baby's health and safety. My baby is #1, not other people's opinions. I can't understand why anyone would be selfish enough to be upset you kept a sick baby home.

you should keep him away from others when he is sick and anything that causes eye goo and a fever that high at his age needs to be seen by a pediatrician sooner rather than later.

I wouldn't want to take my children over when they are sick. I am sure my family wouldn't want me to either.

Well I'll let you make the choice. If you seriously love this kid, just go for it. if you just you know, eh eh, or just like this kid then stay home and not get sick.

There is nothing wrong with looking out for his well being or theirs.
