Question) Truck engine?...air filter problem?
In short)
The truck wont start
Not the battery
Fluid poured down the air filter to the engine
started right up
died seconds later after the fuel was guzzled up
annoying guy said "fuel pump"
So if it is the fuel pump what could be wrong with it
I BARLEY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT AUTOMOBILES SO ANY ANSWERS WOULD BE APPRECIATED THANK YOU
Hi my question is that my grandmas truck is not running at the moment and i have no clue why its an older one (I dont what make, model or year by heart so ill get it on here as soon as possible) but I took it too the dump and it was working ok then shut it off unloaded and it wouldnt start (its not the battery) but the thing is this annoying dump worker was sayin its the fuel pump if i remember correctly and he poured fuel into the air filter area and it started up for a second but after it took the fuel in it would die again so if it is the fuel pump what could be wrong with it

Is there gas in the tank? if so, it's very possible the fuel filter is clogged or the fuel pump has gone bad. They wear out like anything else. Since you "BARLEY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT AUTOMOBILES" you should find a good shop and have it towed in and repaired.

Could be the fuel pump or the fuel filter. It sounds like its not getting any gas to the carb. I would replace the fuel filter first, its cheaper than a fuel pump. My cousin had to replace the gas tank on a truck he had that was doing the same thing, because the gas tank was old, had rust in it and it keep clogging up the fuel filter after he ran it a while.

It is definitely a fuel problem....
What the guy did at the dump was "prime" the engine with a little gas.... It fired up for a moment so it definitely has spark..... An engine needs 3 things, air, fuel and spark... Its got spark (spark plugs are firing), plenty of air, but no gas.... A bad fuel pump is my first assumption..... It could be a dirty (plugged) fuel filter or other problems but the fuel pump would be my first thought.....

U NO !!! I wish I had Grandma that drives a truck we would be bar hopping listening to some blue-grass and sipping some moonshine.dancing and kicking our heels in the dirt LOL ... WeeeeLL fella don't mind me saying that, but on a hunch I kinda took it upon myself to think.which is something I don't do much lately bacos(because) that darn truck only runs when you pour fuel in it which reminde of my cousin Billy (when he had too much to drink he can't walk a straight line let alone say the alpha-bet) and it sound like your lovely grandma's truck (say an old timer say hi to her) now if the truck needs fuel to run then fuel is not reaching the engine.simple is that the fuel-pump is not pumping fuel to the engine...and yo all come back yo hear !!!...LOL

lol one of the others said...make sure it has gas in the tank lol. If it is a fuel pump just buy a new one and change it. Really simple as long as its not in the tank. If it is in the tank then pay someone to replace it because that is a major pain to do. If its not in the tank its probably on the frame somewhere underneath it. Fords are bad about pumps in the gas tanks.

the grinding noise just confuses me since an automatic does not have a gear set with a direct contact to power. if he loosened the nut to the shifter, that can be it. that would leave the trans in park at least.
