Is it true that turkeys will engage in auto-erotic behavior?

I've heard stories that wild turkeys will masturbate.....guess that I've never actually seen it happen though. Just wondering.

I have no idea. I do wonder though... If I can 'tug the turkey' ... Does a turkey 'tug the human'? Hmmm... The plot thickens...

A few wild turkey live and run on my little piece of NJ. Last spring a large bearded gobbler strutted for several days, able to view him while sitting at my kitchen table. Not one single hen responded as I watched. I knew there are quite a few around. Last week I looked out my kitchen window. The gobbler was accompanied by no less than 6 hens. they hung around for about 1/2 hour in the field and woods, just wandering about. He seems to be well set up. No need for anything but the stamina to take care of all the hens. "Whew"!

Epic I haven't heard of them wackin' off but I have seen several videos of wild turkeys trying to mate with inanimate objects. Just a few weeks ago I saw a program on animal planet or one of those where they had a biologist who had put out decoys, wood blocks, a cantaloupe and a couple of items and different wild turkeys would try to mount the items. It was dang funny and it gave me an idea or two for hunting them. I painted 3 pieces of 4x4 wood blocks 14 inches long similar to the feather pattern on a turkey and spread them out in a triangle. I chirped and cooed for about 20 minutes and two Jake's came in. One of them walked over and pecked at one of the blocks for about 15 seconds, raised his head and wham I had turkey breast smoked with corn on the cobb for supper. I guess when they get the urge they REALLY get the urge.

no, but they will try to have sex with anything!

scientists tried seeing the extent of this behavior, they put a fake turkey with feathers in a field inhabited by turkeys, they tried to have sex with it, they removed the feathers and only left the fake head on the stick, they had sex with it, they even removed the head, leaving a 1x1" stick on the ground, they STILL had sex with it lol, splinters much HAHAHAHA

it's just that they're so instinct motivated that they really can't control what they do, and mating it a instinctual thing I guess.

That's total Christian witchcraft talk. First, anyone can get AIDs, it's not limited to homosexuals. Second, you have to have sex, unprotected, with someone who either has the virus or is a carrier. Don't listen to your friend, they are nuts. Tell them to go do some research about sex and sexually transmitted diseases.

Judging purely by a turkey's excellent eyesight, the answer is no.
