There are several disorders with dry cough :-
If you are exposed to chemicals, dust and cigarettes it could be irritation of air passages.
If you have voice lost or hoarseness if could be inflammation of vocal cords.
It also could be heart disorder, tumour, spasm of bronchial tubes.
The best option is to see a doctor for check up.

Dry coughs, coughs that don't produce any mucus or phlegm are annoying. Treating a dry cough is easy and usually doesnt require you to see your doctor. Cough suppressants are cheap and can be bought at your local drug store. Always remember to take the medicine as directed. If you have a persistent dry cough and smoke this may be the cause as well. Quitting smoking can increase the health of your respiratory system. Other things can contribute to a dry cough, pollution, dry air, allergies. Purchase a humidifier which will help recirculate and add moisture to the air. A hot beverage like tea or water with lemon juice, is great for opening airways. Try putting a little honey in your hot drink. Honey is great for soothing an irritated throat and can help treat an annoying cough. There are also medications, such as Theraflu (it does taste icky) you can put in hot water and drink. Steam is great for opening airways. Turn up the heat, and take deep breaths to try and soothe your cough. There are also vapor-medicated tablets that you can place in a hot shower that will release soothing vapors as you steam. A great natural remedy for a dry cough is a little bit of ginger. Try chewing on a piece of ginger or add it to some hot water and make a tea with it. Raw ginger can be found at most health food stores. If you have a cough that lasts for more than two weeks, you should make a visit to your doctor.

Not a lot of detail really!
Your age, past respiratory history, smoking history and duration of the problem would all be important. In the light of this even simple advice is impossible.
