when should a baby be able to lift his/her head?

hi everyone. i have a quick question. my son is a little over two weeks old. at 1 week he started lifting his head and now he can actually hold his head up by himself. is this normal? becuz everyone that sees him do it says he shouldnt be able to do that at his age. so at what age do babies typically start lifting n holding up their heads?

Update:

yea he is very strong. on his third day home from the hospital, my mom was giving him his bath and he almost jumped off her lap.

Update 2:

uhhhh A7XFAN, you had your own brother?! :S

yep it's normal, my newborn started lifting his head at 6 days. Now at 7 weeks he can hold it longer.

Mine did as newborns. If they do it before 2 weeks they are "strong babies", but if they aren't doing it by 8 weeks it may be a concern.

So your baby is a bit advanced at head lifting, but that is far from rare.

Both of my twins were lifting their heads from birth. They were born at 38 weeks and are just strong babies. Some are.

It's perfectly normal for a baby to be able to lift and hold their head from birth. A bit. What they can't do is support it for a long time, or if they are tired, or if they are moved suddenly, or if their body is picked up in a horizontal position.

_Don't_ treat your child as an older baby. It's still dangerous not to support his head, even if he's capable of pulling away from the support.

top away. She is now no longer even a million.5 months and might carry her head up for as long as she needs. yet however, I gave delivery to a baby, no longer a newborn toddler. She replaced into born weighing 9 kilos 5.6 oz. and replaced into the main important of the toddlers interior the nursery. She replaced into able to hold her head up for roughly 3-5 seconds at a time at delivery, yet she particularly solid with it now.

my son was about a week old when he started lifting his head, and then he started turning his head from one side to the other when laying on my chest. he is now 5 weeks old and he is able to lift his own head using his forearms.
