How old should kids be before watching PG movies?

My twins will be 5 in august, I wanted to watch "A nightmare before christmas" with them, because I remember really liking it, but I don't remember if there's really scary parts in it. They're started to watch shows that are a little older, my son loves spiderman and transformers, but still loves diego and thomas. My daughter is the same, she loves wonder woman and batman, but still likes dora and barbie. I checked out the rating and it's PG, should they be at least 8 before I show it to them, or would they like it? I know my friends kids watch all kinds of older adult movies, but i don't usually let them watch adult shows. Thanks for your help.

I watched PG movies when I was like 5, along with Power Rangers lol. I think as long as it doesn't have any blood, gore, nudity, bad words and anything that would make them cry, it should be fine. And I don't think A Nightmare Before Christmas had any scary parts, it was actually VERY entertaining and I think your kids could watch that fine.

Depends on the movie and it depends on the child. There are PG-13 movies that are a hair past PG. There are PG-13 movies that are a hair away from R. I use the rating as a guide, but for every PG-13 movie I consider taking my kids to, I check the review and the parental advisory information.

PG movies is generally 13 y/o & frankly, there are some movies that shouldn't even be rated this low (like the teen movies that show the boobs busting out or the short shorts..etc);; there were certain movies (oblivious of the ratings) that I would allow my children to watch but they were always observed by me first;; the biggest problem is that if you allow your kids @ 5, or 8 to watch PG movies, what's gonna stop them from not understanding when they are older (14/15) that they cannot see a movie you DON'T approve for them;; your kids do NOT have your head...whatever goes on in there is their repurcussion...just take that into consideration...they can ALWAYS see the movie when it's 'time'...everything does not have to happen NOW...just wait until the time comes when 'Joey's parents let him see this movie, why can't I', or the kid comes home & says their friends parents let them see a movie, they told me all about it...but then you realize it was the previews that they can tell ya all about;; don't care?? then allow whatever..why not, everybody else does it...but frankly, movies ARE rated for a reason...& if ya still have 'a nightmare before Xmas' hanging around @ home..why can't ya just wait until it's age appropriate?? again, ya allow them age unappropriate, they will not understand your limitations when they want to get into driving without a license, drinking before they are 21, sex before marriage...& yes, it all makes 'sense' to a child...

Try now. It's ok. I have a 6 year old girl and she used to be scared of all bad characters. even the step mom in cinderella. Once we took her to disney when she was 4 and after that though she is scared of them, she watches them but closes her eyes or peeks through her fingers. I think looking at those characters in real changed her. I don't let her see adult stuff. But scary stuff, I think it's ok. If they are scared, you can turn it off anyway. I ask my daughter sometimes if she wants me to turn it off if its too scary, though scary, she wants to watch it.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is not scary whatsoever. I'm sure your kids will latch on and love the movie into their adulthood.

i think they'd honestly be fine, really. just watch it with them. PG means parental guidance, so it's not saying its too bad or anything. plus, most ratings will say why its rated PG (reasons like sexuality, alcohol, scary images, violence, etc.) and if you suspect its going to get bad, turn it off. while its good being protective and really paying attention to what they watch or do do, you dont need to shelter them too much.
