Is my Macbook Pro gone for good, or can I rescue files from it?
It's a 2007 running Tiger. A month ago it was run over by a car and the screen was cracked, the body a bit warped. Still functioned great. Now I try to turn it on, I hear the start up noise but not the chime (but, the sound may have been turned off). The screen stays black.
I tried hooking it to another mac via firewire and holding the T key upon startup but that did not work.
What's going on? Any suggestions? Is this related to the car incident?
I don't have another monitor to hook it up with ...
I swear it worked fine after in the accident! It still had 1/4 of the screen functional. The mac people at the apple store said yea it would eventually die.
The weird thing is that it "died", resurrected for 1 more use, then died again.
IHaha 'm not sure what type of car. It was small, normal looking. It was backing up really slowly and my laptop was in my luggage. Only 1 tire went over it.

Holy cats - run over by a car?! Yes, I'd guess that it's related.
If you can't get anything by booting into Target Disk Mode or connecting an external monitor you might be toast. You could rip into it and remove the hard drive, then get an external hard drive case and connect it to another computer. If the HD is still working, you can recover your personal files. http://www.ifixit.com/ has Mac tear-downs for free.

I had a somewhat similar problem with my 07 MBP. It would turn on and I could hear the chime, but the screen would not turn on. It turned out to be a graphics issue and I had to get a whole new logic board. However since there was a problem at the time of production and many people had this same problem, the fix was free.
However, my computer was not run over by a car. Since yours sustained a far bit of structural and cosmetic damage, the genius bar will probably say that it was some fault of your own.

I wouldn't try to salvage it. It has been run over and who knows what delicate internal components have been damaged or put into a position close to failure.
a) try putting the disk in a enclosure and access the files that way (or let the pros do this)
b) hook it up to another monitor- if this works, dump all your files onto an external drive and transport them to a new computer
c) take it to the shop and let them take care of it.

eliminate the hard force and connect it to a special laptop. A USB enclosure is between the basically proper approaches. Which Macbook professional did you've? once you've the nVidia bump underfill cracking challenge, you will get your laptop fixed for loose (nVidia will reimburse Apple) even if it really is outdoors of assure.

I going to say yes... A general rule of mine is to not have my MBP ran over by a car.
Pull the Hard Drive, use an enclosure to get the files (if HD is not dead) and get a new computer.
