Is it a sin to listen to heavy metal music?
I listen to a lot of metal bands like Motorhead, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Metallica, Pantera, Judas Priest and Slayer but I'm also very religious. And I'm wondering is it a sin to listen to metal music?

Implying I give a **** what the Christians say of my music! According to them I'm going to hell for a lot of other things so hey lets make a soundtrack on the way there then. Seriously though I think that some religions have that whole blasphemy law thing so if you listen to music that explicitly states "**** God" it isn't blasphemy.

I don't think so. Many Christians seem to believe that God made them, and if that i the case then God made you to like heavy metal. I'm not hugely religious but I do believe in God and I do pray, and will apologise if I think I've done something wrong or sinful, as I don't believe that it is sinful. Even if you are listening to songs with an anti religious message - and not 10 minutes ago I was listening to a song called "**** Your God" - then as it is not you who is declaiming these things then I can't see you as doing anything wrong. You personally are not saying that you don't believe in God, or that you worship Satan, or whatever, you're just listening to music that does. It's like watching a horror film: just because you're watching something which involved serial killers and sadistic maniacs does not make you a serial killer or sadistic maniac. Same with metal: just because you enjoy listening to what is traditionally known as "The Devil's Music" doesn't make you an advocate of the Devil.

I'm assuming you're a Christian, and if so then no. I'm a Christian and I've been listening to metal for about 5 or 6 years now. Music in itself can not be good, evil, sinful etc... what makes it good, evil, sinful etc is the lyrics. That being said, it doesn't really matter what you listen to, whether the bands are christian, secular, or anti-christian, although I try to stay away from blatantly satanic bands.

No its not a sin. Music is just an expression of ones self. As long as you arent listening to metal religously to where you are out drinking blood or biting off bat heads (sorry ozzy) then you should be fine. I am very religous but I always listen to metal. But try to stay away from songs that cus or talk about sinful things in a supportive way.

No! I'm not religious, but for what I do know, It's not against any religious rules. Just do whatever makes you happy, and if nobody else likes it, then tough for them. After all, it's just music and you only live once. I listen to metal and I'm not a bad person as is probably 99.9% of other people who listen to it!

You sound just like me years ago. I grew up in a Fundie household hearing how metal was "evil devil music!" it took me awhile to overcome all that silly ingrained stereotyping and realize that God doesn't give a kitty what I listen too. So no, I don't believe it's a sin, at all.

Oh, the only sin I see is that you don't list Suidakra and Eluveitie xD
But honestly it can't be sin as there are even priests who enjoy metal, hell a friend of mine who is studying catholic religion to become a religion teacher *plays* in a metal band.

If you like the music there should be no religious preference. If you like it you like it. The lead singer of my favorite band grew up religious and into metal music.
