Are people that stupid?

Saying start Osgood in game 4, put him in there! Time to bench Howard.

You're saying give someone who has started one, maybe two, pretty sure it's one, game since February 25th and didn't look sharp in it, and hasn't looked sharp in any games he has played in, put him in a do or die game instead of trusting the guy you put in for 60+ games all year and trusted in game 7 and in the playoffs?

At the least I'm looking ahead for next year. If you put Osgood in now, what will that do for Howard's confidence? Do you want the guy who will be next years starter knowing he got yanked in favor of his backup in an elimination game?

Even further look at Osgoods play. At least last season he did decent in the season so you had hope in the playoffs. You don't have that same hope. I love Osgood, I'm a big fan of his, ask anyone on here. But starting Osgood in game 4 would be absolutely ridicolous.

Are people really that stupid?

Since it has to be a hockey question;

More shocking: Which rookie standout goalie this year will have a case of the sophomore blues?

Update:

Oops, didn't mean the more shocking. Meant to backspace it out. I was gonna ask whos play shocked you more this year in the playoffs, Martin Brodeurs or Brian Bouchers.

It doesn't really matter what the question is in response to: the answers to "are people that stupid" and "are people really that stupid" are usually "yes" and "yes, really". Good thing to keep in mind, for life. Lol.

I said in a question earlier that the first question I read yesterday after not having been on the site for awhile was about starting Osgood and some Wings fan was basically like, "Oh yeah, start Osgood. Hahahahahahahahaha." I thought it was funny. At least there are sooome Wings fans with common sense. :b

I'm not good with predictions as it is, and goalies seem, to me, harder to make predictions about. So I'll pass there.

I think Osgood is terrible, personally, but he's got good numbers, especially in the playoffs. Besides, Howard is on a losing streak. Sometimes it's good for the team's morale to shake things up a bit. Give the poor kid a break. I honestly don't think it's goaltending as much as it is the caliber of the entire team they're facing.

I think Howard will have the Sophomore Blues if any rookie goalie does. I think they'll continue to improve, though. I think Boucher is more shocking.

    Hi

Only way Osgood would have got the start in game four is if Howard got pulled in game three and Osgood put on a game saving show. That didn't happen so I doubt we will see Osgood, period.

    Thank You

ps I look for most of the sophomore goalies to have a bit of a let down last year. Other teams will have had more time to watch and study tendencies.

Decent last year? His SV% was .887, his GAA was 3.09, for a head goalie that is awful. Than he came into the playoffs and pulled off a SV% of .926 and GAA of 2.01. Osgood has shown he is a playoff goaltender, so why wouldn't you give him at least 1 start? It would be a lot easier for a goalie to understand getting benched after losing 3 straight games rather than being swept on his own home ice when your team was counting on you most. Its his rookie season and just from the last couple of years the young goalies who end up getting swept, usually go on to have a poor next season. Howard is the future, getting swept is a whole lot worse in my opinion than getting benched to a veteran like Osgood. Either way you look at it Howard's confidence won't be great if they lose this series. However, if he loses the next game and they get swept that is the worst case for his confidence.

At least it's good to know you aren't foolish enough to be in wanting Osgood to start though. Howard will be the man, like he should be. Osgood hasn't done anything this year basically, when it was Howard who drove this team to the playoffs. Yeah, they'll get eliminated eventually, but let Howard start the rest, for a reward of a good first season.

Osgood has always done better with a ton of pressure. He seems bored in the regular season grind. It really couldn't hurt to start him than Howard; unless someone in the Wings' organization wants to send a message that he can't slack off anymore.

By the way, Moose, the first one should answer your general question in full...and a half.

I don't know. Chris Osgood does morph into a regular season Luongo/Miller/Brodeur in the playoffs. Any Wings fan would agree with me 100% on that one.

  • I agree 100% with you! Despite Howard giving up some weak goals last night, I wouldn't put Osgood in if Howard gave up 8 goals in one game. Perhaps Detroit can win a few games (or even make a miracle and win the series). That can only be done with Howard in net... NOT OSGOOD.

Bonus Q - Niemi! Can't wait when those Hawks are back to being at the bottom of the standings.
