Why are video games enjoyable?
For me I enjoy playing them for many reasons.
Alot of them have good stories to play through , I like the sports and racing games
its cheaper than restoring an old car "which would be fun and enjoyable to do too, Looking for 68 69 firebird to restore"
It works with my schedule unlike tv programming "plus there is no interaction with tv accept pressing buttons on the remote.
It's cheaper than going hunting or fishing for the day unless you live by the lake.
It's easier to play with other people versus going to the park and play especially when your work hours are different from everyone else that you know.
Videogames are just cheap entertainment that are fun (like my wife LOL).

Well obviously the actual games/stories itself are enjoyable. I like to play with my friends/clan and just be able to have a good time. I play a lot of FPS's and I love spending my time shooting people in the heads. :) Plus, when I'm bored, it gives me something to do that I can actually stay focused on.

Most games are only worthwhile if tthey have a decent plot
that being said think of a video game as an interactive movie not only is it fun to watch but it provides a decent challange as well.
In fact most games these day have alternate endings ensuring that players will play through multiple times
aside from those two things also tak into account that you get to do things you would probally NEVER get to do otherwise. Running from a boulder? sure uncharted and tomb raider have that
wanna shoot some zombies? play resident evil or deadrising.
Fighting Massive monsters with a sword? go on and play a zelda game.
all of these things (and alot more) are possible in video games. just don't get too engrosed and fall in love with the chartacters or somthing :)

Other than the obvious, it's because REALITY DOESN'T MEASURE UP TO VIDEO GAMES. Reality is full of double-standards and breaks from the rules. Random chance is downplayed and power is given to the player. The real American Dream lays in a video game, where anyone can truly become a level 70 warlock, own their own home, or make decisions that impact the country. You can learn skills that have no purpose in reality and for a much cheaper price.

An escape from reality, for most, I'd guess. "I'm failing 2 classes! Let's shoot up some mother *******!" It feel like sucess from doing little to nothing ( I see threw their scheme with there "achevements" e.e
