WDTY of the baby name Esther?

Alright, I couldn't stand this name before, I thought it was such an "old woman's" name, and I couldn't understand why anyone would name their kid Esther.

But then I met an adorable, sweet little girl names Esther, and recently the name has started to grow on me. It's far from a favorite, and I wouldn't use it, but it's kind of nice.

What do you think of it? Could it have a "comeback" as many other old fashioned names have recently? ^^,

Just curious!

I didn't used to like it very much before, but now I love it. I love most old-fashioned names anyway though. It's the name of Judy Garland's character in two different movies, A Star is Born and Meet Me in St. Louis, which makes me love it even more!

The nicknames Es and Essie are wonderful, which is another reason to like the name Esther!

Still, I don't think Esther will have a big "comeback." It's popularity has been relatively stable around the 200-300 range since the 1970s.

i don't think of it as an old name, but i don't love it because of the movie "Orphan". it's a horror movie and the little girl in it is named Esther and after watching that movie i will never think of the name the same again! but other than that, it is quite cute.

i love the name Claudia, which is also a name most people think is an "old lady name", but i have two great friends named Claudia who are both 13 years old, so i have never thought of the name as an old lady name and it' now on my favorite names list! i think a lot of older names have been making a comeback, and sometimes they're just as good a the newer names!

just remember even if others don't like the name, doesn't mean anything! what matters is that you like it(:

    hope i helped!

I don't really like it. Too old fashioned. Also, it sounds like you love the girl named Esther, not the name itself.

Euhm.... i don't like the name especially the English pronouncement of it.

In my country they say it with a loud r (rrrr) like the do in france and spain and italy and Belgium

It probably will make a comeback, but I wouldn't use it.

Hmm....I don't really like the way it sounds.

But I don't judge names by when and if they are popular/unusual/old fashioned.

  • i really dislike it.

i understand some ppl can make a name "cute" because you think of them however i think OLD woman & no i really hope it doesn't make a "comeback"

I hate it so much. It just sounds really hideous to me.

It's an awful, old fashioned, heavy name. Fine for a middle name, but please, for the love of god, do not name your child Esther.
