Are today's Conservatives really Conservatives?

Oh, gee, where to begin? This "question" is like a smorgasbord of revisionist claptrap. Let's start with "in times of war". Which Conservatives have you heard complaining that Obama is spending too much money on the troops? "National emergency" - Obama is one of those who caused this national emergency, and it wouldn't still be a national emergency if he'd back off and let the private sector heal itself the way Bush did with tax cuts. The rest of that crap about "anti-gay, anti-minority fanatics" is just that.

You are either a Marxist liberal posing as a RINO, or you are like those RINOs in Congress who, instead of holding fast to the Conservative principles that made this country great, decided they'd rather be popular with the welfare crowd. That's why they lost so badly in 2008, because no matter how hard you try to spin it, the people of the United States of America are largely Conservative, and we're sick of being dragged kicking and screaming down the path toward Communism.

You are partially correct. From 2000 - 2006, GOP politicians sure forgot about fiscal responsibility and the goal of shrinking gov't.

That's changing. The Tea Party is essentially forcing the GOP politicians to move back to that position. Heck, a sitting GOP US Senator in Utah just lost his primary because he wasn't fiscally conservative enough. The Utah GOP will instead be running someone else.

I think we are seeing a revolution within the GOP going back to exactly what you are talking about.

Reagan is a still a hero to many conservatives, yet he was a progressive Democrat in the 30s. He didn't change his politics, his party 'Left' him behind.

I sort of consider myself a Libertarian, so I get what you're coming from. I am in 100% agreement with Republican fiscal issues and 100% agreement on Democratic domestic issues. I am a pro-choice, pro-gay marriage atheist who is sick of rewarding laziness with government handouts...aka MY tax money that's getting docked out of my paycheck every week.

i agree with you, i can't understand why fiscal conservatives have allowed the idiot social conservatives (led by the neocons) to run the party and control the message.
