Why is an undergraduate degree in accounting a Bachelor of Arts?

In America most degrees are categorized either "Bachelor of Arts" or "Bachelor of Science." Traditionally, a B.A degree will have more emphasis on philosophy (i.e. the Philosophy of Accounting as espoused by various economic theorists) and a B.S will have more practical aspects. (Internships, may end in a "certification" etc) However, in America today, most universities have muddled the waters so completely, that there is no real difference between a B.A and a B.S...
There are also some small number of "professional" degrees at the Bachelor's level. B.Ed. (Education... also B.S.Ed) and B.Eng (Engineering) are two of the most common. 60 or 70 years ago the law degree in America was a Bachelor's, but now it's a graduate degree. (J.D.) There was even a time when Medicine was an undergraduate degree. Most of the professional degrees though have moved to Master's or higher. Even education and Engineering are moving toward graduate "professional" degree requirements. (M.Eng, M.A.T, etc) That's because the American higher educational system as we think of it, is a liberal arts undergraduate education, (where you take time to "find yourself" as they say) with a professional graduate education. So, don't be suprised if in 10 or 20 years, you would earn a B.A and then an M.A.T to get your initial licensure in teaching. . .

I trust maximum, yet no longer all of what Mister suggested. At some colleges, you do have a call between BA and BS levels interior the sciences, and especially situations the standards for the BA are much less annoying to fulfill than for the BS. There may well be a language requirement distinction, or extra (or greater-point) math standards that distinguish the two levels. In some colleges, the BA calls for extra literature or different humanities standards than the BS. you will only ought to learn the particular standards for the degree and learn them to what you like for admission into pharmacy classes to work out that are ultimate. yet, be attentive to that that's no longer continually the case. some colleges grant in basic terms a BA selection, and the standards would be if truth be told comparable to a BS degree at different colleges. i do no longer think that colleges distinguish between the levels as rigidly as Mister shows, yet that maximum will easily look to work out what classes you easily executed. So, in case you opted for much less annoying classes, having a BA somewhat of a BS would count. inspite of the shown fact that, in case you chosen rigorous suggestions, then the wider non-technological expertise background of a few BAs may well be extra useful for you interior the long-term.

Why is yours? I don't know..that's just what they wanted to put it under I guess. It's really their choice and doesn't make a big difference. Not all schools are like that though.
