I believe that would be a no on all counts.
Penance usually implies that we can do something ourselves to atone for our sins, which we can't. The best we can do is learn a lesson from some sort of discipline, but that is about improving who we are and how we live, it's not about forgiving our sins.

PENANCE appears 66 times in the Latin Vulgate and the Douhay-Rheims Bible (Catholic).
IT WAS A MISTRANSLATION.
The NEW AMERICAN CATHOLIC BIBLE finally has REPLACED THE WORD "PENANCE" WITH "REPENTANCE" in 1970. THE CATHOLIC DOCTRINE WAS BUILT AROUND THIS MISTRANSLATION.

PENANCE - The virtue or disposition of heart by which one repents of one's own sins and is converted to God. Also the punishment by which one atones for sins committed, either by oneself or by others. And finally the sacrament of penance, where confessed sins committed after baptism are absolved by a priest in the name of God. (Etym. Latin paenitentia, repentance, contrition.)

lol @ "Catholic BIble"
the Bible was formed at the Council of Nicea by Catholics. Later the Protestants removed six books. so i assume your Bible is actually a "Protestant Bible" but you don't call it that, do you? Ever wonder why?
