What would be a fun family vacation this summer (starting in Dallas) for around $1,000 for a family of 4?

Since the kids are so young it sounds like this vacation is going to be for you and your spouse mostly. Can't really do much w/$1,000. I would suggest you take a road trip to some place cooler than TX. To a state or national park and get a cabin b/c it may be a real hassle setting up tents with small children.
