Please explain how there is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost and that be "One God"?

instead of three Gods espeacially since the bible also states: Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are CLEARLY SEEN, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead. Please don't tell us we have to take it on faith and thaat it cannot be explained when the bible says the invisiable things are clearly seen even His Godhead.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19).

This verse is the foundation of trinity teaching. It would appear to refer to God as consisting of three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. So let’s look at the command and how it was obeyed.

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38).

It would seem, at first glance, that Peter misunderstood what Jesus told the disciples to do. But, look at Jesus’ command to baptize. He said to baptize in a name (singular). So what is the name of the Father, and the Holy Ghost? (We already know that the name of the Son is Jesus).

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, the everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

“I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not” (John 5:43).

“Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you , and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? (John 14:8,9).

Since Jehovah is one of the Father’s names, and Jesus came in that name (Jehovah is salvation), the Father’s name must be Jesus. Since Isaiah said that the Son who would be given, would be called “The everlasting Father”, Jesus must be the Father, for surely He is the Son that was given. Jesus told Philip that He was the Father. We can easily determine that the name of the Father is Jesus. But, what is the name of the Holy Ghost?

"Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you” (John 14:17,18).

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his” (Romans 8:9).

“Now the Lord is that Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (II Corinthians 3:17).

“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).

“Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow” (I Peter 1:11).

Can there be any doubt that the Spirit that dwells in us, which we call the Holy Ghost, is Jesus? He said He would come to us. It says it is Christ in us. Jesus is that Spirit. In II Peter 1:21, 22 it says that the Old Testament writers were moved by the Holy Ghost, yet, the Bible says that it was the Spirit of Christ. So, we know that the name of the Holy Ghost is Jesus.

All the fullness of the Godhead is in Jesus (Col. 2:9). One God, manifested in three offices. He was the Father in creation, the Son in redemption, and the Holy Ghost in habitation.

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

    Deuteronomy 6:4-5

The Bible teaches plainly and without ambiguity that God is one! It never says that God is two or three or any other number. It simply says that God is one!

God is not three distinct divine persons. Neither does He have three identities, three personalities, or three centers of consciousness. God is not three at all, GOD IS ONE!

The doctrine of the trinity was developed by philosophers attempting to explain the God of the Bible using the ideas of Greek philosophy. But in Colossians 2:8-9 Paul warns, “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily....”

Ok, to play "devil's advocate" for a moment here, taken in context, Romans 1:20 is not referring to the exact nature of God but to the fact that nature is evidence that God indeed does exist.

Your line of thinking, however, IS correct. The constant theme throughout Scripture is that God wants His human creations to know Him and fellowship with Him. John 4:22 says "Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews." In essence, in this statement, Jesus was confirming the strict monotheistic beliefs of the Jews, in that He said that they KNEW what they worshipped.

"God the Son" and "God the Holy Ghost" were terms that I avoided even when I was a Trinitarian, since neither the apostles, nor Jesus, nor the gospel writers ever used those terms.

and that means all is well with my soul.

Everyday is a blessing for GOD Is ONE !

The Power is from one source, Matt.28:18-20,

all POWER is GIVEN, by giver to Jesus over

heaven and earth, Matt.3:16, giver gave Jesus

his Spirit or Holy Ghost, Acts 1:8, 2:1-4, giver

gave those after Jesus, his Spirit or Holy Ghost,

the word of God is from this same Spirit or

Power or Holy Ghost, John 10:34-36, Heb.4:

All right, let's try a different angle: the Acrobat Reader is available to run on a whole lot of different operating systems. Each version is separate and distinct, but they are all the Acrobat Reader. A person who has gotten used to the idea that a particular program is only available for a particular operating systems might find this difficult to understand, but it's that person's preconceptions that are the source of the problem.

In the same way, the notion that multiple Persons cannot be one entity applies to human beings. But when we are considering God (who among other things is the creative source of personhood in the first place), there's no reason to think it applies; it's an anthropomorphism.

There's also no particular reason to think that a Person, when referring to God, means quite the same thing it does when referring to human beings. All our language with respect to God is necessarily based on metaphor, because language arises from ordinary experience and God is, by assumption, exceptional. And in this case, the language describing the Trinity was pretty much cobbled up to shore up a belief system with a fundamental problem: our experience of God in some ways doesn't fit any description we can derive from ordinary experience. God is, by definition, extraordinary: ordinariness is a created characteristic that doesn't apply to God at all.

Whether you believe in the Trinity is, of course, up to you. But if you'd like to understand it better, I can recommend a book: "The Mind of the Maker" by Dorothy Sayers. She tackles the problem by means of an extended metaphor, comparing the Trinity to aspects of the human creative process (and she notes, by the way, that when humanity is described as made in the image of God, the primary characteristic of God that has been mentioned is creativity). It's all analogy, but analogy is the best way to comprehend the concept.

    Here's a sample:

If you were to ask a writer which is "the real book"—his Idea of it, his Activity in writing it, or its return to himself in Power, he would be at a loss to tell you, because these things are essentially inseparable. Each of them is the complete book separately; yet in the complete book all of them exist together. He can, by an act of the intellect, "distinguish the persons" but he cannot by any means "divide the substance." How could he? He cannot know the Idea, except by the Power interpreting his own Activity to him; he knows the Activity only as it reveals the Idea in Power; he knows the Power only as the revelation of the Idea in the Activity.

-- Dorothy Sayers, "The Mind of the Maker"

  • To expand on the person who answered H20 = Water:

Water really is the best analogy to the Trinity, but not in that there are three atoms that make up one element. It is more like ice, water and steam. All three are made up of the same thing, but they are different at the same time. They change into each other and can serve the same purposes. That's a lot like how the Trinity works and God is still simple.

They aren't One God but Three. The Father has given all things to the Son including worship. Therefore we only worship the Father through the Son with the Holy Spirit as the guide, teacher etc.

    John 12:45

And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.

"God the Father" is Biblical, "God the Son" and "God the Holy Ghost" are not and thus should be avoided.

The human family is the closest analogy that mankind will ever come to concretely understanding the Blessed Trinity.

The creeds teach that while there is one God, He exists in three distinct persons. The bible, on the other hand, reveals that man is made in the 'image of God'. From these two truths, therefore, we can acknowledge that the complete image of God is found in the Triune understanding of Him.

This understanding of His Triune nature is reflected by the human family whose personal relationships approach the likeness of the Trinity.

There are multiple demonstrations of this truth.

Consider the unity of the Trinity which is reflected in the unity of the family. Or the "family of persons" which is found in both. The persons of the Trinity share the 'same substance ' while a human family becomes one flesh: wife with husband and parents with children.

There is also another element in the Trinity that lends itself to human likeness. The Nicene Creed professes this about the Trinity: "We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life who proceeds from the Father and the Son."

In Catholic theology, the Holy Spirit is said to proceed from the will of both the Father and the Son, or in other words, through the activity which they engage in, otherwise known as "love".

The Holy Spirit is poured forth through the exchange of love between the Father and the Son. This is why perhaps Jesus says to the Apostles: " Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you." (John 16:7)

In the eternal economy of the Trinity, therefore, a person 'proceeds' from the love between two other persons. And so, the Holy Spirit is love 'proceeding' or 'coming from' the first two persons of the Blessed Trinity.

The human family has a rather striking parallel to this dynamic. The ultimate act of intimacy in a marriage mirrors the eternal exchange of love between the first two persons of the Trinity.

And like the eternal or continual procession of the Holy Spirit in the Trinity, the act of love between a man and a woman causes a 'procession' of another human person (i.e. the birth of a child).

Thus, it is precisely because the homosexual sex act is not ordered to the procession of another person, that it can never be a Trinitarian reflection of the divine essence.

Indeed, the sexual act itself, which is supposed to be a reflection of the Trinitarian relationship, becomes, through the homosexual act, a blasphemy against God since it ends up distorting the Trinitarian image of Him.

The human sexual act either affirms God's image or it distorts it. This is why all forms of contraceptive sex, including the homosexual act, are serious sins: they seek to create God in another image. It is anti-Trinitarian.
