What is the best way for me to clean a vintage ivory colored clutch purse with simulated pearls and sequins?

I asked this before, but did not get an answer. I found this amazing vintage ivory clutch purse at a yard sale. It is in very good shape, but very dirty. The pearls look tan instead of white! I rubbed it gently and some of the dirt came off right away, so it appears to be surface dirt rather than the pearls and sequins turning color. Would it be ok to clean it with a soft, damp toothbrush? If not, what kind of household items can I used to clean it? Also, the strings holding the pearls on have turned brown. Is there anything I can use to make the strings white again?

Update:

The material appears to be satin. What about the thread holding the pearls on? Can anything be done about it?

We'd have to know the fabric. For example you could wet clean linen type products but not silk. Here's a site for linen http://www.ehow.com/how_2148140_clean-heirloom-vin...

The faux pearls will take the water bath, but I worry about the sequins. All you can is test the sequins before cleaning to see if they will shed their outer layer.
