Help please! I have a question about my hot tub?

I have 2 questions. First where can I buy a replacement bulb for my hot tub? I just bought a used hot tub and there was no bulb in the socket. All I know is that it is a 12 volt ac bulb. I tested the switch and socket and they both work, so that is not an issue. I would assume it looks like a brake light bulb? Second question I have is that, since I don't have a wiring schematic, or anything I am not sure how to hook up the thermostat. What puzzles me is where does te copper wire from the thermostat go. It comes from the control panel on top of the hot tub, not the one on the bottom by the pump. Everything else works great! Thank you for all your help you can give me. I don't know if this helps the control box down by the pump is made by IPI. I can't get a wiring diagram from them any more because they went out of business. Thanks again!

Update:

Thank you, the light works awesome! I think your right after I read your answer, I thought about it and it made sense for it to be a ground wire. There is no probe on it, and the wire size is either a 10 or 12 guage. The control box is a dual 120/ 240 volt 30 amp single phase so it makes sense that the wire is that big. I think the problem with my thermostat is that it is currently running on 120 volts so the water takes foever to heat up. I will convert it to 30 amps 240 in a couple of weeks. I will know then if the thermostat is bad or not. It was just really hard to find information on this control box. It isn't that old, the contol box is only 2 1/2 yrs old, but he never used it so it like new. Never having a hot tub before Yahoo answers was my last resort. Thank you again for answering my questions. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Well to answer your first question those bulbs can be found at just about any hardware store or auto store because yes you are correct its a simple little generic bulb.

The second one im not to sure what your trying to hook up into here. Any bare copper wires are usually grounding wires which go into a bridge usually somewhere on the outside of the control box or spa pack. If its coloured green same deal its a ground wire.

Most of the thermostats in the usual hot tubs are a simple plug and play model and dont usually have a copper wire attached to them so im curious if you have a installed tub that was put together at your house or a self contained model.

If its a self contained one ive never heard of a grounding wire on the thermostat. If its a installed system it sounds like your talking about an aqua stat with the probe that goes into a temp well which is usually screwed into a bushing.

I'd need more information to help you out if you can post a picture of it maybe i can help you further otherwise im a little confused about what kind of spa your dealing with and what kind fo setup you have. It's always easier to troubleshoot something like this when you see it.

Can't help you with the wiring, but *most* hot tub manufacturers put their manuals online now. You can do a search for your tub's name and then model number and probably find the manual. In the manual *should* be a list of replacement parts, including bulbs. You might even be able to find a wiring diagram on there too. If not, their customer service department might be able to help.
