Were we at war when Regan, Bush Sr. or Jr. missed Memorial Day at Arlington?
I never said Obama should be at Arlington. Obama is speaking and paying respect to soldiers at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. They are no less worthy. Memorial Day is about honoring veterans. Paying respect is what counts. I've just heard Replicans say that Obama should be at Arlington because we are at war while they give the others a pass and say we were not at war.

Well, the technical answer is yes. The war in Afghanistan was ongoing when Bush missed Memorial Day at Arlington in 2002. Of course, he spoke from the cemetery in Normandy that day, so I guess we can give him a pass. I think Obama should go to Arlington, but at least he is speaking at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Illinois. It isn't like he is going to his California ranch, or some such.
But your point is well taken. Obama should be at Arlington.

I've seen Reagan at Arlington on Memorial Day. Of course, I'm old enough to have been around for the event. "Regan" was Reagan's chief of staff.
And as someone who's lost a son in Iraq, I appreciate their refusal to give into to pressure NOT to defend our country.

America isn't at war. It's just invaded and screwed up a couple of smaller poorer nations and is trying to clean up the disastrous mess it's made. Good luck with that.

I'm sorry has America not been at war in the last 30 years?
