Why can't they send a submarine down to the Oil rig and shoot several torpedoes/missles at critical points to make the whole thing collapse on itself and stop the oil leak?

what did was that covering they made for the oil leak supposed to do? why didn't it work?

Update:

that is why i asked "why" they couldn't do it. i obviously didn't know. and if it is to deep, why the hell are the messing around at that depth?

Because then you get a big crater with oil gushing from a broken pipe at the bottom, an even harder problem to fix. What you are suggesting would be like trying to stopper a gushing fire hose by tossing hand grenades at it.

You are correct though, drilling at this depth should have been done with every possible state-of-the-art safety precaution, it's literally bat **** crazy that it wasn't. More proof, if any was needed, that deregulation has gone way toooo far.

That would create a worse situation with more oil gushing out. The idea is to cap the well which they have tried. They have to relieve the pressure by digging two relief wells which can be capped. There is apparently a difficulty in doing it that deep in the ocean. BP should never have been allowed to drill so deep. That person who issued the permit was fired. Many government agencies have gone unchecked for many years.

Because Oil wells are a big pressure tanks that are ready to explode the second it is triggered , shooting will probably let the well dry itself up faster if not instantly .

because then they would have several holes and at the moment it is slightly blocked and that would completely unblock it
