Atheists: How many of you....?

....follow some type of Buddhist philosophy? Would you agree with Gandhi in the following quotes?

"The freedom from all attachment is the realization of God as Truth."

"Search for Truth is search for God. Truth is God. God is because Truth is."

"I do claim to be a passionate seeker after Truth, which is but another name for God."

Update:

For those who suggest they would believe facts over truth...wouldn't a fact be a truth? It's a fact so it true right? Think about it.

Update 2:

Ghandi always believed in compassion, non-violence, and the Golden Rule of "treat others as you want them to treat you." He believed strongly in the Hindu principle of ahimsa which means non - violence. This is taught not only in Hinduism but also Buddhism, Christianity and several other religions. - Just FYI

Update 3:

pianomusic,

Perhaps it is hypocritical for Atheists to come to R&S. But think about this. Why are any of us here? 1) We're insecure about our beliefs and continue to seek answers or 2) We're well grounded in our faith/beliefs and seek to do our best to help others "see the light". What I seek by asking these questions is to plant a seed of thought. Perhaps those who are confused will take the time to nurture these seeds and produce good fruit in the end. Keep in mind that the Bible also says we will reap what we sow.

Nope. Found Buddhism a waste of time, too.

these statements were nothing more than Gandhi's opinion, that isnt to say it is incorrect, but an opinion nonetheless. Buddhism teaches you to reach an enlightened state of mind through whichever means you choose, whether thats martial arts, meditation or whatever, its personal.

EDIT: this is also emphasized on the point that Buddhism only has God(s) if you choose it to. some believe Buddha was a God, some a reincarnation of Krishna, and some just believe he was an enlightened being. Buddhism does not have a strict set of beliefs or principles, it is a method of reaching an enlightened state of mind and body

well if you want to call truth God I'm fine, its parallel to Einsteins belief, if you want to call the energy of the universe God that's perfectly fine, but that does not mean there is an intelligent creator, just an all powerful natural force.

Its a very different thing than saying God is truth, which implies that all the associated teachings of God/ Religion is fundamentally true, which I disagree with.

    1. No disagree. Our attachments to other people make us compassionate individuals.

    2. No, disagree, there is no god.

    3. Actually, the belief in deities is the opposite of truth.

Why not simply call it Truth instead of God.. makes the word "god" rather meaningless.

I think this seems rather like the typical theology semantic game playing with "God". Theologians don't care what God the real sciences gives them, as long as they give them a God at all

No I wouldn't agree with any of those. Just because you search for truth doesn't HAVE to make it 'god'. Being as atheists don't believe in god, then how could it be? Truth to me lies in fact and things I can see, touch, hear, taste, smell etc

Perhaps I agree a little bit with the last one.

    But only a bit.

    Otherwise, no.

Those aren't Buddhistic quotes... The denial of self/ego makes sense to me though.
