Because in our culture most people view being skinny as a positive thing. people think that being skinny is part of being beautiful, because they see all the models in the magazines are twigs and they want to be like them.

this in turn makes it where being called "fat" is taken as an insult. because people relate beauty with being skinny.

whereas in other cultures, being heavier is a sign of beauty. it all depends on your viewpoint

personally i think having some meat on your bones is a good thing. it shows that you are healthy.

With women there is not any such factor as "too skinny". they'll constantly take skinny as a compliment because of the fact they psychologically constantly experience fat. So fat is an fairly undesirable be conscious for em adult males often want to be heavier so it fairly is the different with adult males often (except they are particularly particularly fat)

Because fat is an insult due to connotations that go with the word. Like if I called you black you'de feel something on the inside.

well, people these days think being "fat" is unattractive, thus making it an insult to many, especially people who are dieting, or being very self conscious about their weight. plus telling someone straight that they're fat *is* kinda rude....

    And fat...is an insult.

because being skinny is socially acceptable, but when you call someone fat, u are also saying that they are lazy and all that..

Who knows? Maybe, because the term "fat" is generally negative.
