Christians, why can't we get a straight answer?

I recently had a question up that asked what I thought was a thought provoking question. After getting a handful of answers to it, I found that every last one of those answers had nothing to do with the question, but were instead attempts to "save" my soul. I won't go into all the answers, but suffice it to say some were somewhat attacking, pointing at my handle as a suggestion that I needed saved, while others were outright hateful; one going so far as to say they looked forward to the day I would burn in hell.

I shan't re ask the old question, but I do want to know why some Christians won't give a straight answer to the questions asked? Also note, First, I am religious and "saved" if you prefer, and second the name "Magick" is an old gaming handle, I won't go into the details of it, but it centers around me being fifteen at the time and a horrible speller.

Update:

I deleted the question after less than an hour of having it up. Since I wasn't going to get an answer to it, there was no point in having it up.

Update 2:

Also, the original question was simply "What is your understanding of how long the days were in the Genesis creation story?"

One of the great things about Christianity is that faith is available to anyone, regardless of health, wealth or intelligence. This broad-range acceptance of humanity means that when you ask a question in a public forum like this, you may not get the caliber of answer you expect. The same is true of all sides of the debate.

    Some reasons for poor Christian responses may include the following;

    * The Christian may be spiritually immature. Some Christians think they a being hardcore for God - when in fact, the Bible tells Christians to teach with humility.

    * The Christian may be a new Christian and therefore less educated in doctrine and perhaps a little over zealous.

    * The Christian may be poorly educated in doctrine. Many, for example, believe in the non-biblical concept of 'blind faith' when the Bible is clear that Christians should study and think about why we believe what we believe.

    * Christians who are poorly studied will likely be insecure in their faith. Insecurity breeds defensiveness.

    * You could have just been unlucky enough to be on at a time when the rational, educated Christians were not. I've noticed that there are times when the only atheists here are insincere and pejorative.

It is also possible (having not seen the question and responses), that you are not judging the answers objectively. Sometimes people ask questions about the Christian faith, but will only accept answers that are consistent with their own, non-Christian belief system. Logic only requires that our answers be consistent with our own belief system.

    1. i would like to know what that ? was. i would answer it if i know the truth of it, and am certain i won't be giving you false info. God hates this. (judgment begins at the pulpit.)

    2. i always try to give stright answers.

    3. many selp proclaimed Christians don't read the bible for themselves. they rely on preachers' word of it. all organized religions have church doctrines. they use these to fill in the bible in the places that they have very limited or no knowledge of a subject. here is an example. i asked a priest this ?: "if adam and eve were the 1st 2 people how did cain go somewhere else (LAND of Nod) and take a wife?" priest said (and i have gotten this from JW elders too) genesis 2 is a more detailed account of 1 so what happened is cain married his sister." so i asked if that is so how did this sister get to Nod?" answer: "Nod is not an actual place but rather more of an idea or a place that he went in his own mind." so i asked "if gen 2 is not a chronological continuation from gen 1 then why does gen1 end on the 6th day and 2 start on the 7th?" answer because God had to tell you on the 7th day he rested" "why not tell me that in gen 1?" blah blah blah. im sure you get the idea. when a doctrine is used to "fill in" or add to the bible all it does is raise more ?'s. that is how you know it is false teaching. ALL church doctrines are false. so many of the self proclaimed Christians only know the John 3:16 part. that is it. that is all they ever say. well that and the other false doctrine of eternal burning.

i am an avid gamer i when i read this i had a sneaky suspicion that your nick was game based, except i thought perhaps the spelling was intentional lol.

well hope i have cleared that up for you.

Beats me. Some of us think we know everything. We don't.

Then again, a lot of the questions I see here, both by Christians and non-Christians, do have a rather strong connection with salvation.

As for the whole "holier-than-thou" thing, I don't like it. "There is NONE righteous, NO, NOT ONE."

    *EDIT*

"one going so far as to say they looked forward to the day I would burn in hell."

As for that, I just don't see how people can say that. Either they have a seriously deranged pastor, they forgot what God is really about, or they aren't really a Christian but someone who posed as one in an attempt to discredit Christians.

    *EDIT*

It's not like every christian in the world flocked to your question. You shouldn't base your entire outlook on the christian community on less then 10 or 20 answers on yahoo. If I would of read you question I would of given you my most honest answer... Truth be tould I am not steven hawkin nobody is accept him, and him being the most intelligent man in the world right now, believes in a higher power (God). I recently watched him on the science channel referring to the universe and God.

I love watching things about physics because in my mind it only proves their truely is a god. This universe and our very planet are so complex it boggles my mind that people refuse to accept that we as humans were created, and our life is a trial, ment to be hard and unpleasant, so that God can judge us, and use us for a much greater purpose. And if you do not pass this test here on earth then you cannot be of use and you go to hell where you will eventually be non-exsistant entirely.

Perhaps I sound crazy to you, but tomorrow look at the sky and look at the grass, the road, the house and the people, and ask yourself why is there ANYTHING let alone me? What is the purpose of this life.

If science is what you are depending on then is makes more sence for nothing to exsist then for everything your eyes are looking at to be here.

I truely believe in God and that when I die not only am I going to go to heaven but I will fulfill my true destiny uncompairable by any sifi movie and more beautiful then any earthly thing.

We are so limited by our earthly bodies right now we cannot fathom the beauty of the universe...

goodluck in your spiritual journey by the way.

You have had 2 previous questions in religion and spirituality both 4 months ago and both look like they were answered with pretty straight answers.

If you are referring to a question that wasnt in this subject category then you ought to be asking it there or at least referring to what category it was in .. in other words ask a straight question.

It is written that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Just too many religions with different beliefs. Jesus Christ established just one church not many churches this is why there are so much mass confusion between the religions. His church is the Catholic Church and that's all there is.
