Why does skimmed and semi-skimmed milk taste like wood?

It's not just me who thinks this, my kids and my friends wll not drink it due to the slight 'sawdust' taste. Even dried skimmed milk when made up to a liquid tastes very odd.

i'm dead fussy and used to only drink whole milk, but actually skimmed is much higher in calcium. it is more watery but shouldn't taste different at all. i think that is what milk tastes of and your just not used to it without the cream. i actually prefer skimmed now (it didn't take long) you should try cravendale as it is pasturised for longer and has a creamier taste.

Sorry to say, there is no remedy. Adding water will make it taste lighter but will also make the milk look unappealing. It will also make the milk go bad quicker. Unfortunately, if you have a constant supply of semi-skimmed milk (whatever that is), the best answer is to teach her to enjoy it, or find another source of milk.

If you're going to drink something that has the excitement and attraction of a plank then it's only to be expected! Drink REAL milk - "Jersey" if you can get it - then you'll find out just WHAT milk is supposed to taste like !

I've never noticed this myself. However, I can't stand skimmed milk because it is so bland. It doesn't taste too different to water.
