Is this common at 8wks of pregnancy?

I started spotting on Sunday, I could only tell when I wiped. Now it is like the amount of spotting is increasing each day.

I called the dr. and left a message and the nurse call me back saying spotting is normal and so is cramping but if I get persistent cramps that are bad and an increase in blood then call back. If I filled a pad in 30mins go to ER. Luckily it is not the ER bad.

I started cramping Monday night (of course since it wasn't a problem when I talked to the nurse) and the cramps are becoming non-stop all day instead of once in a while. The blood is also increasing but not terrible to go to ER and it is bright read.

I have increased my water intake to about 9 glasses a day since I talked to the nurse on Monday.

Should I call and leave another message or just try to get over it? I don't want to be the anxious first time pregnant woman but I want to put my mind at ease. If you tell me its normal that would work too,

Update:

To the response of me: you didn't upset me. I had an internal ultra sound on Friday and the dr. said my baby's heart beat is strong. Yes I am scared about miscarriage but I kno it can happen.

I cramp to the right an my uterus is back and to the left so I think it is my uterus just aligning. The blood on the other hand with the cramps worry me.

I do not want to be negative and upset you, but part of the reason they may be telling you you don't need to come in at this point is because if you are miscarrying (I pray for you you're not) there is nothing they can do to stop it. When I miscarried at 13 weeks they did not want to see me they just had me go over the course of a few days to get blood drawn to check my hormone level, once they saw it was going down then they had me come in for the d&c. Maybe you could ask them if you can get your blood checked to see if your pregnancy level is going down and if it's not then you'll know you're alright right now. I personally have never had spotting but I do hear that it can be completely normal, so I hope that's all it is! Good luck and I hope you don't think I'm a jerk for my answer, don't want to upset you.

If you're cramping AND spotting, and the blood is bright red, you need to go to the ER and get checked out.

    Good luck!

i feel your pain!! i am 14wk prego and have been spotting since last Monday... the doc says everything is fine, i got the heartbeat a couple of times... but i still worry... for me the bleeding increases when i get up from laying down for a long time... if the blood is dark red to brown just know its old blood... but i am getting the same advice from the doc so i guess we should just wait and look at the pads...

If the blood is bright red I would definitely call again and mention that it is bright red and that you have persistent cramping. Dont worry about being bothersome you are pregnant and it is normal to worry about your baby, Im sure the nurses expect it.

  • If you are concerned at all there is nothing wrong with scheduling a doctors appt or even going into the ER to get checked. It is the health and life of your baby after all :-) Good luck!

That didnt happen to me at 8 weeks. Its your first baby trust me youre not the only one calling in with concerns sometimes we need reassurance. If you need a nurses opinion i say call again. If i was in that situation id call and maybe even schedule an appointment. Shes a nurse not a doctor everything to nurses is "normal"

i think you should just go to the er. You could be miscarring and going now might save it. or at least ease your mind. i started spotting on this pregnancy and this is my third but didnt on either of my first two pregnancies. i know how scary it is. my doc ordered an ultrasound.
