what are the chances of the "bp oil leak" stopping on its own?
matty...although i gave you thumbs up, i disagree with you. it is b.p.'s fault. making big profits as a direct result of short cuts and no immediate back up plan for such an event. you are intitled to your opinion.

I think the oil spill will just stop on its own. The whole thing is a horrible nightmare. I love Obama, but as soon as his administration got word that BP was unable to stop the leak, they should have stepped in and took over. Every four days is equivalent to the Exxon Valdez (previously the worst spill). And now, Russian scientists have warned that the spill is going to result in Toxic Rain that could potentially destroy America as we know it. Its been only 70 plus days now at 2.5 million gallons per day equaling roughly 175 million gallons. And with Hurricane season coming, watch those currents move all around the World. Hey in the bright side, at least it was the Britt's who started the Apocalypse and not us Americans ;-(

As a Senator, Obama was one of the loudest to bash Bush over Katrina who showed up 3 days later. Obama shows up what 42 days later? Please. Ah, how times have changed, eh? Obama says it's his responsibility but they are still blaming Bush even though Obama appointed the MMS lady who he had to fire over this. It's been almost 2 years. When was she or Salazar going to get around to cleaning house? This is what happens when you surround yourself with incompetent people, give them responsibility but no authority. Since these people are so bad, perhaps that's been a good thing. Really, really. The ONLY experience Obama has EVER had was handing out money to people. That's it. Indeed, the buck stops with him. If you don't play his game, no dough for you.

I am far from being a Scientist but I would hope that BP sort out the knowledge of a few before drilling for Oil in our Ocean!!!
Weather or not who is to blame is it not worth there while to call in these Scientists when LIFE weather Human or Mammal are at risk?
Doesn't a Billion Dollar Company not have a back up plan for this very reason???
How are we to know how much more oil is going to leak out and PLEASE tell US ALL when it will stop???....No one can tell us that because they them self's know we are not able to know how much oil is under our OCEAN!!!
Please BP don't mind us simple folk who pay for this oil and our TAXES!!!...For no one ask us if we wanted our Ocean to be filled with the useless oil that is now killing the life in our Ocean and Family's that fish our Ocean for a living...How are you going to replace all the LIFE that was taken???
Do you think a few Dollars to those who depend on a Fishing Market to just say hay THANKS for the few bucks and putting these Family's that have been fishing for a LIVING out of work!!!!!!

that oil leak stopping on its own has a very low chance and again this is one form of imperialism if u like it or not also bp has become one of those companies that we rely on too much and this needs to stop right now companies like microsoft, foodcompanies and other companies can literally be able to control our lives because of how much they produce. would u imagine wats gonna happen if all the operating system around the world crash it will mean total chaos. one good example of this kind of imperialism is a company selling person a free gun but telling them to buy the bullets from the company

As Burro says, it will stop on its own when the reservoir is empty of oil and full of seawater. That might take a goodly while in the terms we use to measure time.
Otherwise something else might happen, something collapse, something cave in, something congeal we aren't aware congeals under those kinds of pressures, which would surprise everyone but end it nevertheless.
And there's the possibility a God exists, I suppose, and if that were the case it might depend on how it was inclined to view this thing.

0 The oil is mixed with natural gas under pressure. Eventually the pressure will taper off, but, since oil is lighter than water, the leaking would continue.

Well It will have to be like 2 months otherwise underwater divers have to deal with it or the Oil spill will likely end up in the atlantic.
