My Hair Metal band of the day (Take 10)?

I know I have used the term underrated several times in these posts but when someone asks me who was the most underrated band ever Badlands is always my answer. I think it is a travesty that these guys are not a household name and other lesser bands from this era are.

Badlands was formed by former Ozzy guitarist Jake E. Lee and short lived Black Sabbath vocalist Ray Gillen. Unfortunately these two really ended up not getting along and the constant infighting would destroy the band, and the death of vocalist Ray Gillen would seal their fate.

Enjoy the greatness that was Badlands.

MQ: Thoughs on the songs/band?

MQ2: Who do you feel is the most underrated band ever?

BQ: Tea or Coffee?

Update:

@vinster: That is the entire point of this series of posts, to show everyone that there is more to hair metal than warrent and poison (even though I honstly have no problem with either of those bands)

MA: I have heard of them before, but not that familiar

Winter's Calling: Nice vocals, the accoustic guitar is nice intro, when it picks up, nice drumming and of course a good solo from Jake

Dreams in the dark: Hmm, not as big on this song as the first. not too bad, but nothing really stands out for me

Tribal Moon: cool intro riff, like the drumming in this song...nothing standard which is kinda nice from a "hair metal" band

Sun Red Sun; abit of a different vide here, especially vocally. but pretty solid again.

overall, kinda what i would expect from a band with the members involved. I would say solid band, and would listen to them again when i'm in my non-metal moods

MA2: hmmm, that is tough to say, so many but I normally say Absu...I love the frantic drumming style (he also is primary vocalist), the thrashy/black metal style riffs

    Absu:

BA: although i am drinking coffee at the moment, Tea all the way

MA: I like Deadly Metal a lot instrumentally but the vocals get a bit annoying. But, nice riffage and cool licks. 10,000 Lovers has good riffs and licks too, but it would be much cooler if they kicked it up a notch and kept the vocals more aggressive. Just Like God has a weird feeling which I went to describe but I can't. It's catchy, but other than that and the intro+outro there's nothing too interesting about it. I do like the album cover though. Give Me A Sign is surprisingly really good. I like how it progresses both instrumentally and vocally. Really cool solo too. Atlantis starts off with a very weird riff. The song sounds like it could've been good but turned out really messy. MA2: Judas Priest. Sometimes it has worked, sometimes it didn't. MA3: Sure. Sorry I haven't been answering any. It's just that hair metal is not something I'm too fond of. Perhaps your Qs can change that. BA: You haven't lived till you've tried some Lahori fried fish.

I have to kinda dissagree with you...just a bit, LoL! ..this is just a little personal quirk of mine - Badlands was a great band for sure, too good to be lumped in with that "Hairband" label. They were a serious act compared to the Poison's and Warrant's that completely ruined the meaning of having...well... hair! LoL! But i get your point though. Badlands was highly overrated and never got the push they needed from the media.

    2. My #1 underrated fav band: TNT

    BQ: Coffee

  • Aight.. am headed to physical therapy, but will answer when I get back.

    *EDIT*

    MQ:

MQ2: Death Angel, at least for Metal. The reason I list them, out of so many is multifold.... but the thing that stands out most, is unlike a lot of bands I know and listen to, they are not obscure or unknown in the least. And that is the thing.. they are very very well known... but still pretty much ignored by any but the more hardcore Thrash fans.

BQ- Coffee. Like both, but tea don't do a thing for me in the morning.

*btw.. thanks to the stellar guitar work of Jake E Lee, this is one of the very few GLAM bands I do know a bit about.

MA: I have heard about this band but this is the first time i am actually listening to their songs. Riffs are pretty good in all the songs. Vocals are not too shabby either. 'Sun Red Sun ' was really cool. Loved the bass guitar on this one (more prominent actually). Me like this band.

MA2: Ah, lots. At the moment,i feel Kalisia.

    BA: Tea.

  • I have the Albums "Badlands" and "VooDoo Highway" I think they only had one more but I don't remember it's name. I liked these guys and yes they are very under-rated. In fact they are never played on Classic Rock Radio and that is a shame.

I thought they were pretty good. the first song kinda reminded me a little of "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin. Great singing, great guitar playing.. it's just not really something I think I'd listen to a whole lot.

MQ2: damn, there are so many great bands that I feel deserve much more attention, but I'd say for the amount of talent they have compared to their fame, It's a toss up between Hibria and Serenity, both have amazing vocalists, Hibria had one beast bassist (they have a new one now that I still haven't heard), and great drumming and guitarists. Serenity may not showcase insane instrument skills (actually the drummer's pretty damn good), but they make up for it by great song writing.

Soulsteeler (Live) is the best one, IMO. Sun Red Sun must be the second best for me. Another good one.

I love the riff of Soulsteeler!

The most underrated band EVER must be Tobruk. LISTEN TO FALLING!! EMI dropped them because they were stupid and thought tobruk sounded 'too american'. Which is stupid, cos they were around befre bon jovi, the band that sound so much lie tobruk, and were more origional than bon jovi.

Tea for me right now. It used to be coffee, but well... Ive gone off of loving it so much cos my mum got different makes.

Badlands rocked.......one of my favorites was their cover of JT's Fire and Rain

The most underrated band ever is probably Kings X

    Coffee

MQ: You may have just introduced me to a new band to listen to... Because in all honesty, I've never given them a shot :D

    MQ2: Tora Tora...

BQ: Neither, I don't like hot drinks.
