Windows 7 vs Windows Vista?

I bought my Emachines E525 laptop about 2 weeks before Windows 7 was released....

My laptop is currently Windows Vista Home Premium..

My mum is getting a desktop computer which is Windows 7 home premium..

I was thinking of upgrading from vista to windows 7 because I was told that windows 7 is much better than Vista..

What is your opinion?

I've never worked with either, but I go by reputation. I'd say go with 7, lots of people say its better. Obviously 7 has gained a good reputation, and it has to come from somewhere, so majority of people like it. I don't think just because one person thinks its good makes a difference, lots of people think 7 is better, so I think it is. But don't take my word for it, try 7 out for yourself. Work with both OS'. You should wait for your mom's computer to come and try 7 out for yourself. If you like it, upgrade. If you don't, then stick with Vista. The choice is yours.

Windows 7 is much better then Vista, 7 is much faster an all, but one bad thing about about 7 is, so many software's still don't work with Windows 7, also like if you are gonna get something like a online game, it will mostly likely not work with 7, but if you're lucky, you can find some ways to make some things that don't work with 7 work with it

Fact number 1 Vista contains many registry problems that are solved in Windows 7.

Registry is basically what tells your computer how to operate and what to do.Vista had many bugs in its registry which caused poor performance for many.

Fact number 2: Windows 7 not only uses less resources that Vista but it also handles programs much better. Leading to a faster computer.

Fact 3 windows 7 rocks lol

honestly dude its a lot of money to buy Win 7. If you can afford it then go for it. If your not really having any troubles with Vista then keep it. I will warn you though Windows 7 might not work on your machine. To make sure it does download the program in the Link below to see if you computer is compatible.

windows 7 will be fully backwards compatible with vista. you will be able to upgrade from vista to 7 with no problems as microsoft plans for the windows 7 requirements to be the same as or very close to vistas requirements, since MS is building it off the vista kernel. also MS has already started doing driver support testing to make sure that 7 doesn't have the problems that vista did at launch.

I can speak from experience as i upgraded my laptop and on my own custom gaming setup i built. I upgraded from Windows Vista (Home Premium) to Windows 7 (Professional) on the laptop, its much much better, it loads faster and is a lot more streamlined compared with Vista.

It depends on hardware from how much of a performance improvement you'll (it runs faster still on my compared with my XPS laptop but its still quicker than vista) see but its far better with RAM and its layout takes some getting used to but it works really well, i'll dare say its the best version of Windows along with XP and 2000.

Also most hardware drivers that run under Vista also run under 7 so you shouldn't have driver issues either for hardware

Opinions vary, but I personally will stick with Vista, if you kick it into shape it's not the resource hog that everyone claims it to be and it has some great features. Forget all this 'registry problems' rubbish, that's just people sounding off pretending they know it all.To be honest I find the new features of Windows 7 more annoying than useful and the wireless networking UI of Vista which was a joy to use is now back to a fiddly confusing and unpredictable mess. Additionally I don't find W7 any faster (slower on some levels) and don't get me started on that horrible control panel and inability to pin the things you want to the task bar. Oh, and Windows Mail (Outlook Express) has been removed in 7, thanks MS.

If you have the money to spend, you should definitely switch to Windows 7. There are a variety of features on Windows 7 that either don't exist or are improvements on the Windows Vista OS, and Windows 7 performs better on similar hardware than Windows Vista.

You can see in depth testing of Performance on Windows 7 vs Vista here: http://www.hardcoreware.net/windows-7-vs-vista-per...

You can see a review of changes and new features on Windows 7 here: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/reviews/windows_7...

Bottom line: Windows 7 is significantly faster and cleaner than Vista.

    by options I mean this:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/compare...
