You did not mention that you clean his skin folds. Just bathing him does not get the folds clean.

No doubt his smell comes from his skin folds.

    -----------

Cleansing the skin is a necessary part of english bulldog care because this breed has folds on their face and around their tail. If you do not make the effort to clean these areas every day, you put your pooch at risk of developing a condition known as fold dermatitis. This is when the skin under the wrinkles becomes infected, due to a build up of bacteria that was encouraged to grow from the warm moist environment, caused by a lack of airflow to the hidden flesh underneath the crinkles.

Since this type of dermatitis can be very uncomfortable and painful for bullies, and if left without proper treatment can lead to a serious problem, such as a pooch needing to have his tail removed, keeping these rumpled facial and tail parts dirt-free and dry is a must.

Is cleaning wrinkles a difficult part of english bulldog care? Not at all. In fact, if you do it on a daily basis and familiarize your pet with it when he is a puppy, the procedure should be quite quick and easy. Here is the simple process you need to follow:

    1. Use a gentle soap. It’s a good idea to ask your vet what brand is best. He/she will likely recommend a germicidal soap that you can either purchase from them or from your local drugstore.

    2. Combine the soap with a damp fresh wash cloth and carefully and gently clean in, around and under the skin folds. Make sure you avoid the eye area.

    3. Fully dry the creases you washed with a soft cloth to ensure that any left-over moisture is taken care of. Remember, leaving any dampness can increase sensitivity and raise the risk of problems.

Some owners find that applying powder, such as corn starch, also helps with english bulldog care for their wrinkled coat. The reason is it assists in keeping the area dry. Additionally, if your bull dog happens to be one of the unlucky pups prone to irritation, you can also apply a cream that is designed to help heal and relive skin from chafing while protecting it from infection. Be sure to talk to you vet about the best cleaning and healing products prior to applying any of your own homemade remedies or store-bought items to ensure your bully’s safety and wellbeing.

Sometimes a dog has a bad odor because of a skin infection, which needs a medicated shampoo from the vet. Sometimes the odor is coming from the dog's mouth--dental disease can have a very strong smell. Yeast infections in a dog's ear also has a really potent odor. Some dogs need their anal glands expressed on a regular basis or they become infected--anal glands smell quite bad. And some dogs' food can actually make them smell really bad, and a switch to a better food makes a big difference. Washing your dog too often strips the natural oils from his skin & coat, and can compound the problem.

Take your dog to the vet first, find out what's causing the smell.

If your food has corn, wheat, soy, or animal byproducts, it's poor quality and you should find a new one. Good brands include, but are certainly not limited to, Canidae, Innova, Orijen, Solid Gold, Wellness, Blackwood, and Blue Buffalo. Canidae is probably the most affordable good quality food.

Could be a skin infection. I bath mine once a week as well, but the vet says to use anti-bacterial wipes on his folds every other day. You an get these wipes from the vet. Bulldogs generally have skin problems, so skin infections could be causing the odor. Get him checked out by the vet for any infections, and she may recommend addiing a supplement of Omega 3 to his dog food for better healthy skin.

Also, they have doggie cologne (no, it's not as sleazy as it sounds) it's just a freshening spray that I use mid-week. I went to a pet store and was playing with a baby bulldog and noticed how clean he smelled, I asked one of the sales associates what shampoo they use and she pointed out the doggie cologne. Now, my dog smells clean all week.

Royal Canin is an excellent food. Unfortunately, older dogs, and dogs like english bulldogs tend to have rather horrible gas for most of their lives, it is just kind of a fact of doggy-human life. Sorry

Definitely upgrade his food. Your dog should eat a food that is high in meat, and has no wheat, corn or soy. With bulls, odor is often caused by a skin infection in the facial folds. You should be cleaning these thoroughly about every other day with a washcloth and then wiping them dry. If the skin in these folds is red, losing hair, or stinky, he may need to see a vet.

He may have a yeast infection on his skin. Try Eqyss MicroTek shampoo, it's the best, bar none. I can vouch for it and if that isn't enough, check out the testimony pages.

You might want to check & see if the food you're giving him has grains in it, too.

You are giving him baths way too much. Dogs should be bathed once every two or three months. If your dog is smelly then you should probably change to a healthier food.

It might be when he goes outside, Dogs like to roll in fowl smelling things and that might be. Try and watch him when he goes out and see what he does.

Perhaps it is a medical problem- take him to the vet.
