I want to volunteer in the gulf but have no special training? Is there anything I can do to help?

I have been emailing various agencies to no avail. Without hazmat training or my own boat I am seemingly helpless. But maybe I could help in pre-cleaning, or distribution of food and supplies to workers? This whole mess just breaks my heart and if I could help in even some small way I would feel like I did something. Anyone know of volunteer opportunities?

So you want to volunteer? Wonderful!

No boat? No training? No problem!

Check out your local wildlife sanctuaries or state agencies that are helping wildlife and see what supplies they need. Not covered by BP! With list in hand-talk to friends, family, store owners, etc. and gather those supplies, then turn them over to the sanctuary/agency of your choice. A few kids in Florida even open up a lemonade stand to raise money for wildlife efforts.

Got binoculars & a cell phone? Go to beaches and look for animals that are in distress (DON"T TOUCH THEM!) call Fish & Wildlife agents, & give them location of animal(s). The lives you save will be greatly appreciated by those who can't speak for themselves.

I am 65 & my friend & I are raising money for several sanctuaries in LA & FL.

Use that wonderful brain you have & you will be surprised what you can come up with.

    Good Luck

I was reading an article that stated there are not any volunteer opportunities. All of the work will done by workers paid out of the proceeds from the BP funds. This is one time that outside help is not needed.

What would really help is to pray for the people who are losing their livelihood.

I think they'd let you help clean up some of the beaches.

Without special skills you would just be in the way.
