1979 Honda CM400A tail light out?

Hello

I just bought a 1979 Honda CM400A Hondamatic as my first bike. Spent $350 on it and it runs like a charm.

However, I was riding home from work today and I got pulled over for having my tail light out. My confusion is that the light comes on when I get on the brake, but it doesn't stay on after I let off the brake.

Is there any way to fix the light so that it stays on when I am not stopped?

Thanks!

Update:

I just tried swapping the bulbs out with one of my blinker bulbs (they're the same type and I just bought the blinker bulb a couple of days ago) and it still didn't work.

Could it possibly be a wiring issue I need to look at?

    Check the tail light fuse.

Assume you're in a State where riding with your lights on all the time is required. The tail bulb has two filaments, one for the tail light and the other that comes on when the brakes are applied. Sounds like the tail filament needs replaced so you'll have to buy a new bulb. You might want to surf some motorcycle accessory shops for an LED replacement for the incandescent bulb as they are more reliable.

Use a multimeter and check the lead to the tail light with the constant voltage to see if its got 12v going to it first. If it doesnt, check the fuses, if those are good track the 12v constant wire back down the harness and look for continuity through the whole wiring circuit of the tail light.

The brake light and tail light are different filaments.

You need a new bulb for the tail light.
