Whats the difference between a liberal and a progressive?
I remember Hillary Clinton saying that she wasn't a liberal she considers herself to be a progressive. In my opinion a progressive is someone who wants to change the system and a liberal is one who believes in the democratic platform but doesn't want to change the system, like capitalism. Is that true?

I think it's just two different terms for the same thing. I prefer to call myself a liberal.

Since "liberal" became a dirty word in politics, libs bastardized "progressive" to distance themselves from it. They are the same thing in other words. Liberals and "progressives" (again, one and the same) both want to "change the system" but not to a "progressive" one, but to one that has proven to be a big failure time and again. That is, the central-planning government.
Since "progressives" have been told how much smarter they are than the rest of us rubes, in spite of displaying behaviors and thoughts to the contrary, they think that THEY can actually make socialism work. The sad truth is that they are really just dumb, unthinking boobs who will repeat the same mistakes as their socialist founding fathers (Castro, Stalin, Lenin, Mao, Chavez, et al.), because there is no way that someone with the economic acumen of a retarded tree can run an economy.

I think of myself as a liberal. But it seems more honest to let your actions define what your economic principles and political priorities and your position on civil liberties are than it is to self-label.
I don't have a good answer. I think and hope that liberals believe in results and reality first and foremost whether we are discussing education, innovation, the role of venture capital in a free market capitalistic system, military strategy and operations, tax policy and job creation, et cetera.
I don't believe that progressives believe in results and reality nearly as much. The Labour Party in the UK strikes me as the quintessential example of a progressive government, which I take it is what you're concerned about. Progressives who lack power are interesting oddities. Progressives in power are something different. That's a dangerous combination since, as you can see in the UK, the "best" political intentions in the world can bring a powerful nation to the brink of insolvency and chaos.
I think your evaluation is accurate. Democratic republics like ours require the oxygen of free market capitalism and vice versa. It is this symbiotic relationship that produces all the benefits that we take for granted. Most of the important problems is our country seem to occur when we introduce imbalances between the two via sub-optimal policy choices, ineffective or inefficient regulation and/or regulatory enforcement, and going-through-the-motions Congressional oversight.
I really don't know. But it seems to me that one very useful measure of whether a government is working well or not seems is the degree and scale of entrepreneurial activity you find in a nation. Generally, the more entrepreneurial activity the better whether small-scale or large-scale or in between. If that entrepreneurial dynamic is not sufficiently represented in your economy and society, then declines in the same are practically inevitable. It acts as a natural regenerative in such matters.
Take care. Enjoy a beautiful Sunday afternoon!

None. Once they were socialists, and everyone figured out that socialism is bad. So they started calling themselves liberals, until everyone started realizing that liberalism is bad, too. So now they call themselves "progressive," which by the way is an adjective that also describes cancer, and for the same reason.
Eventually people will realize that progressivism is the same irrational nonsense, and then the left will be forced to drop that name too.

Here's the difference... Liberals live on Venus, progressives are from Uranus.

Both are close but different.
Liberals are about liberty and rights. Progressives are more about socialist reforms.
Progressives are nice when kept in check by conservatives. They allow the nation to advance in a different direction. Unfortunately progressives seem to spend three times as much and always remain in a constant deficit.

They are both the same. Liberals are stianging from the name so they have tried to switch the name to progressive.

There is very little (if any) difference between liberals and progressives. Neither has a very firm grip on reality.

there is no dif. these are names that socialists use because they do not like being called marxist and it makes them feel superior to others.
ask a progressive what the end goal is of their progress, the answer will mirror the agenda of the communist, democrat and socialist parties
