Stalking the truth

There are only a handful of possibilities regarding God’s role in the recent elementary school massacre. This of course assumes you believe in a God as described in the Bible or other holy books. If you don’t believe in God, none of this applies. Here are the possibilities as I see them.

1) God was unaware the massacre was taking place.

2) God was aware of the massacre but unable to do anything about it.

3) God was aware of the massacre and able to stop it, but chose to not interfere.

4) God intended for the massacre to take place.

If you believe in God, which of these possibilities do you think is most accurate as to God’s role in the massacre?

If you think I left out a possibility, please let me know what it is.

I have been told many times in the past that marriage is good for society for several reasons.

1) Marriage reduces promiscuity, which reduces the spread of STDs.

2) Marriage strengthens the bonds between people and creates a better environment to raise children.

3) Marriage involves commitment which causes people to become more mature.

Is this all still true today?

During the cold war with the Soviet Union, we relied on the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) to keep us safe. This was basically, if either side fired nukes, the other side would retaliate and both would be destroyed. This was deemed reliable because while Soviets were atheistic communists, they did not want to die.

Now we are fighting religious fundamentalists. The fear is that they are not afraid to die because they believe they will go to a paradise after their death. So threatening them with annihilation if they attack us has no impact.

Based on this, doesn’t it seem like secular people are more rational than religious people?

My best guess is that Zimmerman approached Martin but never identified himself as acting as a neighborhood watch. Martin was probably already spooked by Zimmerman following him, and thought he was a thug looking to rob him. Both acted in what they thought was self defense.

It is a tragedy that Trayvon Martin was killed. Had Zimmerman not been there, or if he had listened to the police and not followed Martin, no crime would have occurred. By the same token, had Martin not assaulted Zimmerman, no crime would have occurred.

Conservatives have convinced me that same sex marriage is good for society. Promiscuity, they say, is bad for society because it promotes the spread of disease.

Marriage, they say, reduces promiscuity because marriage takes commitment and promotes morality.

Since marriage works so well to reduce promiscuity and promote morality, same-sex marriage will reduce promiscuity and increased morality for the gay community, and therefore be good for society in general.

Many churches are favorable towards same-sex marriage.

In a poll a while back, 24% of Republicans said they thought President Obama is the AntiChrist. Do they still believe this?
