The Mormon church has no paid clergy and all adult members serve in some capacity. I was a bishop for 5 years.

Mitt Romney was also a stake president which is a leadership position presiding over a number of bishops.

A bishop would be like a minister in another church accept that the LDS church does not operate that way. Each week, different members are called by the bishop to speak in church. Here are a bishops responsibilities:

    1. He administers and oversees all programs of the congregation. He calls people to the various positions.

    2. He is a judge in the church. He resolves difficult questions and determines worthiness of individuals to go to the temple. he counsels with those who have marital, moral, financial or other problems.

    3. He administers welfare resources to those in need and is responsible to seek out the poor and help them. Romney understands and knows more about how to help those in need than any other president.

    4. He administers the finances

    5. There is allot of emphasis on the youth of the church and the bishop works on an individual basis with each.

Mitt Romney was a Bishop and then a Stake President in

THE Church Of JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints.

A Bishop is (very) roughly equivelant to a Parrish Priest in the Catholic Church. The Stake President is a more a lower level administrative position.

A Stake President oversees several Wards and takes care of everything from finances to the spiritual concerns that the front line Bishops are having difficulty handling on their own.

In THE Church Of JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints there is no lifetime appointments except for the Apostles etc.

The average length of time for a Bishop is to be a Bishop for about four years, before they are replaced by someone else. No one is paid in THE Church Of JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints, so all ecclesiastical positions can take time (and as the saying goes, time is money).

The average amount of time a Bishop spends each week is about fifteen hours, and it is about the same for a Stake President.

It almost never happens that when a Bishop is replaced, the Bishop that is getting replaced is mad about it or makes a fuss about being replaced. In this financialy straped world, being a Bishop for THE Church Of JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints is not an easy thing to do.

Work plus wife plus family plus... being a Bishop

can be very emotionally taxing, to say the least. A Bishop takes confessions, and does many other things, mostly through delegation, though some things, like taking confessions, he is not allowed to delegate that kind of task.

In THE Church Of JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints serving others leads to people being helped and thus to people being able to celebrating life not the sins of the World. And celebrating life not the sins of the world is a good thing to celebrate.

I believe the LDS Church does not have a professional clergy, so an elder member might well have such a title.

    ask us if we care.

he's a vulture capitalist who butt rapes american workers, replacing $17 an hour manufacturing jobs with minimum wage cashiering jobs at retail stores.

that's reason enough to disqualify him for the presidency.

No but he was once. The other comments about no paid clergy etc.. are also correct.
