Army APFT Higher Standards?

Is there a regulation on how high a unit can set its PT standards? I know 60 is the minimum but I've heard some units set the bar up to 80. What happens to a person who can't meet a higher PT standard than the one set out by the army?

Update:

I am a part of a CAV unit with a CO who is Airborne (with possible other qualifications, not sure about it though).

units can set goals, and call them standards. Most units like to set goals of 250 or higher. If you only score 60/60/60 then you are still meeting Army standards.

I have seen units who place anyone who scores lower then 70 on any event on remedial PT. (but not start any unfavorable actions. like flags or chapter) this is to insure that if you have a bad day during the PT test you do not fail. since you are borderline anyway at 60-70 points.

I don't believe you can suffer punitive action as long as you score above 60. That may be untrue for SF units. Best bet is to contact your post Inspector General.

Most actions taken against PT failure are covered in AR 600-8-2 (Flags). And I believe AR 350-1 is the current APFT regs. Remember that commands often try to enforce things that the regulations do not permit. There is little oversight until someone speaks up.

Hopefully that helps. Someone more knowledgeable could help more

These units with higher standards would be the Airborne Rangers, Special Forces, and other hardcore groups. If you fail to meet their higher standards, then you will get booted back to an ordinary unit. As long as you still passed by regular standards, you won't get punished.
