What does my middle name mean in English (it's French)?

Even my mom doesn't know; she got the name from a small french boutique or salon that ended up closing.

The name's Chiar, it's pronounced KEY-air, and I have no idea what it means and I've been wondering it for a while. Is there a name it could be derived from? Someone at work told me it might mean princess....?

The name looks more Italian than French. In Italian, the ch is pronounced as k before e and i (and seldom if ever used before a, o, or u), but in French it's ususally pronounce as the English sh and is hard (k) only in some words of Greek origin. In Italian, too, words that began with cl in Latin (and still do in French and English) shifted to chi. The Italian form of the name Clara or Claire is Chiara. On the other hand, names in French rarely end in a, so someone may have half-Frenchified an Italian name for that boutique. If that's the source of your name, it means "light," "bright," or "famous."

It's now not French, it is only a pretentious spelling of the flawlessly traditional English title "Leanne", which, in flip, is a trendy spelling of the names Lee and Anne joined in combination.

Your name sounds like a variation of Chiara. So I'm guessing that maybe this is the French version. So this is the Italian meaning hope it helps.

It is of Italian origin, and its meaning is "light". Derived from the Latin common name formed from the adjective clarus "luminous, clear" and in the figurative sense "illustrious, famous."

Princess in French is "princesse" Are you sure Chiar isn't pronounced like shee ar in French? I believe it is just a name, just like wal mart is just a name.
