What area in London is nice to live in but not too expensive?

What area in London is nice to live in but not too expensive?

I am moving to London and although I have lived in London before - that was a long time ago.

I do not want to spend loads of money on rent but still want a nice neighbourhood/area .. and I sure do not mind multicultural areas.

I also do not want to live too far outside the city - about 30 minutes by tube into the centre is roughly my limit.

    That's an oxymoron, according to my UK friends.

    If you want in town, the rents are high.

    The further you go into the fringe, the less you'll pay.

    One of my mates was renting a ROOM in London...the rent was nearly five hundred pounds per month.

    (Shared kitchen and bathroom).

    Well to the East go to Hornchurch or Upminster ,, Closer to London is awful

    Its probably a good time to buy because prices now are really....low.
