Does anyone believe the wives tale about the heart rate experiences?

I am about 12 weeks pregnant with my third. I have 2 girls and with both of them, they had heart rates in the 160's pretty much the whole time. Now this one had a heart rate of 163. So I am thinking that maybe its another girl. What do you think? I know these types of predictions are never 100% but, what were your experiences with this do you believe this wives tale at all or no?

The myth says that if the heart rate is above 140, the baby will be a girl, and if the heart rate is below 140 it will be a boy. It is just what it says- a myth, with absolutely no scientific basis. Your baby's heart rate is supposed to fluctuate and the baby's gender has no influence on how fast or slow it is. My first two babies were girls, and my last was a boy. Every one of them had heart rates above 140, and occasionally would have a heart rate in the 130's and 120's. I was hospitalized for the entire last month of my pregnancy with my son, and was hooked up to the fetal monitor the entire time. His heart rate went anywhere from 120's to 180's, and this was completely normal. The only was to tell the sex of the baby with any kind of accuracy is with an ultrasound, amniocentesis, or to give birth and look for yourself. I don't believe in any of the gender myths, but oddly enough, I had almost no morning sickness with my boy, and had it all the time with my girls. There is a myth that says that no morning sickness means boy!!

I don't usually believe in old wives' tales, and I know the heart rate thing is far from accurate, but it was actually right with all four of my kids. There were some fluctuations in the heart rates, of course, but on average, my girls' hearts beat quite a bit faster than my boys'. 163 does sound like a girl, but you just never know until the ultrasound (or sometimes, not until the birth!). Congrats on your pregnancy either way! :)

According to my ultrasounds and ONLY my ultrasounds (19 wks & 27 wks), I am having a little girl (in 4 weeks) and was told at the 27 wk u/s "still a girl...VERY OBVIOUS" . The heart rate has varied 140-160+ bpm. The old wives tales are just those...tales.

If you want to have fun with the wives tales, so be it, have a good laugh. However, please don't disappoint yourself by getting your heart set on believing them.

    Congrats & best of luck.

  • Well I'm still pregnant and we're not finding out what we're having, but my friend had a baby boy back in December and his heart rate was around 160 during her pregnancy. So I don't really believe it.

I don't believe it either. My baby's heart rate is ALWAYS above 150 and we are having a boy. It's just an old wives tale. Good luck to you! :)

you take a necklace and place your wedding band or any ring for that matter on the necklace and hold it VERY still over the pregnant women's open hand palm up. if the the necklace moves in a circular motion then it is supposed to be a girl and if it moves back and forth then it is supposed to be a boy. hope this helps, holly oh yeah some say that you are supposed to do it over your belly but i have never heard of that i heard of it over the hand. it got my first one right and my second one wrong. they also say that if you have both things happen (cuircular and side to side) then it is supposed to be twins, or twins in the future. never had it happen to me so i don't know whether that part is true or not. anywyas hope this is what you are looking for, holly

i don't believe at all. babies are just like adults, heart rates go up with how active the baby is. high heart rates just mean you have a active healthy baby! congrats :)

My babies heart rate was mid 150's almost all the time and actually is a girl, but she is VERY active and healthy. my last visit she wasn't moving much and her heart beat was mid 130's.

you can most definitely have a healthy little boy!
