Tips for a $100 paint job for a car?
I want to get my friend a car for her birthday. I found a pretty cool porche for $400. I need to fix a few minor things but the main problem is that it's white and she HATES white. So, does anyone here know how I can do a $100 paint job that looks really nice? How much does purple paint cost and tape, etc.
Step by step and cite sources or if you have experience will get 10 points.
I also only have 12 days to do this. So something that takes about 2 weeks or less. I will put in TONS of time if needed. I just need the know-how. Please help
Woah. How did you know it was a 944?

Is a 944 Porsche a bad car? I also live no where near a Maaco or whatever

Well, real paint will easily cost that. Even if you prep it, and spray it yourself you'll spend about that much, and that's assuming that you have the right equipment (sprayer mixer paint booth breathing apparatus). And on top of that, you'll need to have some serious know how, unless you want white door jambs and trunk liner and other such fun things. And thats if you don't want clear coat!! I've painted a few the right way, and I've painted my truck the cheap way. Here's how I did it...
I spent about 6 bucks on painters tape (anything even masking will work just fine) and got newspapers. Tape off EVERYTHING you don't want painted. Lights, mirrors, windows (use newspaper for easier coverage) plastic trim, wheels, all that. I used about 35 bucks worth of Olive drab green and 8 bucks in flat black (for racing stripes... haha) and it took me less than 5 hours to cover the thing and detail the stripes on there. Unfortunately the only thing that'd look good on that Porsche would be flat black (which has a tendency to bring about character...) but even then you'll have white around all openings (door trunk hood)
Plus, trust me, as a former Porsche owner, if you found one for 400 it probably isn't worth it (let me guess, 924 or 944) but if you've already got it, doing the paint yourself will look worse than if it were snot green.

It takes a lot of time and dedication to learn good painting techniques and there are no quick tip short cuts that will help you. Its experience and time and learning what works and doesn't work from a master that will make all the difference. For what you are going to pay retail in supplies alone for a medium sized car which takes a gallon of paint the cost is about equal to within a few hundred dollars of what it would cost for a cheap but decent paint job. If you want your car to look good like your writing go buy a old hood and a fender from any car and start practicing on the fender. If you got a job tomorrow in a body shop. It might be a year before you even got a whiff of how to paint. You start out learning the basics in a shop clean up how to tape a vehicle disassemble things like that and eventually you may get a chance to learn on something small like painting a fender on a motorcycle or a small car learn how to paint fenders perfect then you move on to hoods once you get a hood down so you can paint it perfectly with no blemish's or holidays in the paint you can just about paint any part of a car after that. Painting is 90 percent preparation work and 10 percent painting. So do the prep work until it pisses you off and go find something else to do until you are no longer mad. It takes a long time to prep a car by yourself because it is so tedious to begin with. That's why shops have teams of guys painting one car. you need to strip your car down if there are more than 3 or 4 layers of paint because otherwise the primer and color will never look right with crap underneath good paint. So strip your car down to metal and bring it back up right so it does not rust while waiting for you to get done in 3 years getting it ready to paint. or spend 5 grand and have it done right. its not as easy as you think and it takes a good team to get it done even in 3 or 4 days.

a 944 for 400 means its going to need major work which is never cheap. nothing on a porsche is. There is not a place or way on earth to do a 100 dollar paint job that does not look like a terrible spray can job with a durability of 2 weeks. maaco can do u a 1 to 3 year paint job for 300. dont do it. they dont believe in prep work i know them very well and have worked with them. save yourself a headache and regret, dont do this car. I looked at buying one for 400 as well and it ran, but would eventually need new gaskets and rings. It is like a 4000 dollar job = to have done and expensive to do it yourself. Painting a car is not as easy as it looks in your head.

There is a Haynes manual on Body Repair and Painting that walks you through the basics of a paint job. However, I think you're going to spend more in equipment alone than $100.
There will be alot taping.... alot

if you do it yourself you are gonna pay more than 100 for the equiptment and paint
just take it to maaco and get the ambassador paintjob
it only costs a couple hundred for the whole car
go to the website to find a maaco near you
