Is Obama REALLY a socialist? Do you REALLY have the evidence that he REALLY is?

....A SOCIALIST? The assertion is getting louder: "President Obama is a socialist, a wealth-redistributing wolf in Democrat's clothing gnawing at America's entrepreneurial spirit." Even if Obama is not a card-carrying Socialist, they say, he displays a disdain of the private sector.

Socialism suggests getting rid of capitalism altogether...

IS THIS REALLY TRUE?

Update:

I'm reluctant to call him a socialist, but his policies are socialistic.

The Feds have already taken a large ownership positions in companies like General Motors (GM) and insurance giant American International Group (AIG). The US government still owns almost 80 percent of AIG, which has received at least $182 billion in government assistance.

Look at the auto industry, mortgage industry, the health-care industry to some extent, and, obviously, banking.

As for the assertion that Obama is pushing through policies that redistribute income from rich to poor, to some extent that is happening, says economist Mark Zandi of Moody's Economy.com.

Tax rates for the wealthy may also rise: Obama has said he will allow the Bush income-tax cuts to expire. The highest marginal tax rate would climb to 39.6 percent, up from 35 percent. The new health-care law, moreover, raises taxes on people making more than $250,000 a year.

Well, no. COMMUNISM suggests getting rid of capitalism altogether, not necessarily socialism,

But look at what Obama desired for a healthcare reform plan and is STILL working toward....single payer system.

Single payer healthcare system is the classic definition of socialism....socializing an industry. Complete centralized control of production and allocation of resources..

Please tell me where I am wrong about that.

Socialism and capitalism can work in unison. The problem with it is that it manipulates every aspect of the economy and personal spendable income so it has not been the choice of systems in the US. Redistribution of wealth has always been a stalwart of the Democrats. The tax system was set up for that purpose. Progressive tax system creates a higher tax based on income. I'm in my 60's and I have never heard a politician in the US use the term "redistribution of wealth" at all. Obama not only says it, he has chosen the head of Medicare/Medicaid based on that principle.

The whole health care reform is based on the principle of redistribution of wealth. He doesn't care about quality of health care, only that it is spread around. He doesn't care that 85% of people were reasonably happy with their current health care but it will soon become oppressively expensive. He has taken over banks and auto industries. He wants to dictate what corporations pay their execs. Those are hardly free market principles. The fact that you can't see that is almost scary.

Just read his books and listen to his comments made when he is not giving a speech that someone else writes. Look at the people he associated with. He gravitated toward Socialist and Communist professors and has admitted that he identified more with the writings of Karl Marx than he did of the writings of Thomas Jefferson. That alone indicates he has Marxist leanings. It was all there and Hillary and McCain pointed it out but voters did not listen. Less than 10% of Americans consider themselves Socialist or Communist.

Let's just say he has socialist tendencies. In his encounter with Joe the Plumber he make the remark about, "redistribution of wealth," and his increased taxation on those having incomes over $250,000/year confirms his statement (you should be aware that his new and increased taxes do not stop with the higher income group -- my federal taxes increased on the first of January and my total annual income is less than $40,000.00 and it has not increased in the past nineteen months).

Socialism suggests getting rid of capitalism altogether, perhaps, but it definitely embodies the redistribution of wealth.

Hard to say if he REALLY is or not but it is much easier to find indications that he is (the car companies, government increasing control over many industries through regulation and legislation e.g. the health care industry). I am not aware of any circumstance in which his administration has provided incentives for private companies that do not come with governmental control strings.

It sounds more like narrow-minded stupidity than socialism. Obama and others need to focus on creating more wealth before they worry about spreading it around. They need to get our wealth generating equipment back in good working order so there is more wealth to share. I can’t get rich by myself. If I am stranded alone on a deserted island with 10 tons of gold, am I rich? If there is nothing to buy and no one to sell to, I am the poorest man in the world. If I have no one with whom to share my wealth, I know the true meaning of poverty. We need to focus on creating jobs that can leverage the wealth of the few to create some measure of wealth for the many. Our problem is not that we have too many who are rich, but that we have too many who are poor. And we institutionalize poverty when we provide handouts to the poor rather than jobs. I keep hearing and reading about the current “bailout” plan for “Wall Street.” That’s a crock. It is pure, political nonsense. It is our politicians’ way of blaming the problem THEY created on the “greedy” bankers who did what they were told to do and made too many mortgage loans to people who couldn’t afford to buy the homes they wanted. We now have a financial crisis. It’s called the “sub-prime mortgage crisis.” We should just call it the “bad loan mortgage crisis” so people would understand it better. Maybe Obama is right. That’s for us to decide. But before he starts talking about “spreading the wealth around,” he should talk about creating more of it. And it is investment, not spending, that creates wealth. Government does not invest. It just spends, and spends, and spends. And when it overtaxes the rewards of investors who take the risks to make things better for all of us, it ensures that “things” will not be better for any of us in the future. There is a lot of talk about Obama’s plan to “make college more affordable.” But his “plan” is nothing but welfare with a cap and gown. He just wants to make the taxpayers pick up the tab for your college education/indoctrination. If you get a college degree, you may make $1 million more during your working career than you will if you just get a high school diploma. But how does that help you if you pay an extra $1 million in taxes during your career?

excuse my ignorance of current events but I gave up on politics and trying to understand why the leadership has 98 percent of the population dying in poverty. My outlook on the world has become "please begin the world war or supernatural disaster for a restart of all economy and politics".

the private sector has gotten how many bailouts from our government? hmmmmm is that socialism to big to fail is what they say....Entrepreneurial spirited people usually get funds from where?..could it be the banks? I get tired of people throwing around the word capitalism....most of them get fund and capital from the same banks same investors that was bailed out from the government. Now thats socialism....now if you dont believe in socialism quit borrowing money from banks backed by the government quit working jobs that offer unemployment benefits.... work for cash only.....its really not that hard to get away with....but please do not beg obama or any other official you call socialist to bail you out when you fail.....when you get in a care accident tell them to pay you in cash cause you dont believe in socialism..car insurance was forced on people by the gov't right is that socialism...? Last time i checked this is a democracy if you want changes vote for someone who you believe will take us in a capilitistic way like hmmmmm lets see i dunno like Palin .lol...she a real capitalist she will charge you 500 dollars talk about how high taxes are and how they r the party of hell no....I she will talk about her hero Reagan who went to college in california and was born in california which neither is true...but for your 500 bucks you can believe it for a minute if your really that dumb and than you can listen to Rush talk about how hes moving to Costa rica if things dont change...oooh yea they dont want him there...they believe in government ran health care...oooh yeah they will tax the hell out of him....ooops Rush didnt do his homework...Costa rica has the longest living democracy in the entire world. they are not republican they are not tea party..lol.....has anyone even checked the facts on Alaska where the great Palin governed...last on education more people on federal assistance per population than any other stae in america and oh yea highest poverty level in the country...she has done wonders! Simple - he is doing things that Americans regard as Un-American - after all they said the same thing about Jimmy Carter who told the US to basically stop being greedy and they called him a socialist!

Its like calling a firefighter who rescued you an arsonist!

It is not true. It is right wing propaganda that has been set in motion. It's like the secret you tell to a line of people and when it gets to the end of the line, it is totally different than when it started out. Right wing propaganda stories morph all the time.
