Technically we ARE at war with Korea... There was never an official end to the Korean war, only a cease fire that has never been broken.

You have to remember that China and North Korea have only a loose relationship. In fact China stopped backing North Korea during the Korean War. The USSR took over. North Korea was just too extreme for China and this fact has not changed. As a previous answerer stated the war is not over, it's a cease fire. If the fighting starts again don't be surprised if China claims neutrality or even invades North Korea and removes Kim Jong Il from power as he is clearly not working to China's advantage. China has a good thing going (being a gigantic manufacturer of shoddily made goods IMHO) and doesn't want that to change. Hostilities with the US and the rest of the west would bring that to a screeching halt.

No.
There is a lot that is not being said about this incident. I suspect the S. Korean ship was illegally spying in N. Korean or Chinese waters. That's why the response has been so muted.
example: No effort has been made to locate the sunken ship. If N. Korea was in the wrong, this would have been the FIRST thing the US would do to pin the evidence on N. Korea. However, a salvage operation would also reveal the ship was not in international waters when it was sunk.

It is china economic interest to back us if we ever did go to war with north korea. No, South Korea should not retaliate for now (emphasis on "for now") so that something like WW3 doesn't occur.

Don't you see everything say made in china in america? Yes, China is not going to help a tiny country. But, why would we go to war? So no, there is no WW3 when we already got Iraq & Afghan.

If they go to war with the south then yes, we will. That is why we have thousands of troops stationed over there.
The Chinese will huff about it in the UN but will not get involved.

China has too much money invested in us to go to be our enemy. They'll either have to be our allies or stay neutral.
