Why do people ask a question and then get angry at the answers?

This question is just prompted 'cos some pri@k got really wound up at some answer I gave, but it's not unusual, I can see loads of Mr Angry type of Q&A's. Why ask a question if you're gonna get so heated about the answers? Some people here ask dumb questions (see my previous question!) and some give dumb answers, that's just the nature of a free speech forum, why get so het up about it (and yes, I realise some jerk will inevitably give this question a dumb answer, so I'm going to ignore any obviously infantile ones!)? Do you think they just have no idea about how to use this type of forum, or are they the sort of people Darwin would say should have left the gene pool?

I think this is gene independent. The people who get really upset over answers, angry, etc. are usually teenagers or younger. They get upset with a lot of things, it is not surprising.

Aside from that, people often get angry when they ask the classic "was I rude?" or "was I really in the wrong?" and everyone proceeds to disagree with them. That makes them even more angry lol because for some reason they thought this forum would give them affirmation that they were "right," although I suspect all their friends also told them they were not so to begin with so the logic is really desperate and nonsense.

There are also the super overly sensitive people on here, who interpret even the most polite messages that disagrees with them as, shockingly, insults. One of the interesting things I have seen since joining Y!A is to notice the spectrum of sensitivity of people.

    lol people.

It is all about the lack of training and upbringing. A large majority of people are not being exposed to etiquette. It is a good thing this forum is here, everyone gets to see how angry and mean people can be. If they didn't already know.

The people who give ignorant replies really think they are being funny, when they are actually showing the entire planet how mean they are.

Often people ask questions that they already know the answers to, other times people don't have anything to do but sit around and think of stupid things to post as a legitimate question, but that is why God created community guidelines. If and when it gets to be too much of an annoyance, do just as you said ignore them.

Because that is how some people are.

Not everyone has learned to accept other people have different views and opinions; and surprise surprise those views and opinions may be different from the person asking the question...

I completely know what you mean, and to me its just hilarious.

Someone will ask how they look, and someone will be rude and call them shallow, narcissistic. UGLY, and immature... Not the answer they were looking for and thus that person is being rude for giving their opinion.

I think a lot of people are looking for specific answers to questions they ask, and if they don't agree with what the answer they want, they are rude.

My guess would be that a lot of people ask a question, not actually hoping to learn any information, but instead to try and sneak in their message in the form of a question. And when they don't get that...they fire up the rage furnace.

A good example would be the bigots running around posting questions like "Why do so many white women have non white babies when they know it's impure?" and other disgusting crap like that...they know their question will be removed, but they get a kick out of makin a point. I've done it a few times myself...

    Just a guess though...

I agree with the 'trolling and stupid' answer. Also, maturity plays a role, ever mindful that one can be immature at any age.

I've also noticed a tendency for people to 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' based on whether the answer jibes with their own opinion or not. For the record, I won't 'thumbs down' if it's a simple difference of opinion. A rude or snarky reply *will* get a thumbs down from me. It goes back to the 'stupid, immature troll' thing.

Its just that its not the type of answer they are looking for. Sometimes people will be talking about one subject, get an answer about it, and have it turn out to be an insult

They want everybody to tickle their ears and get mad when they don't hear it. They need to suck it up and get over it.

Most people here are trolling or stupid, usually both.
